Paint protection film

Does anyone have an opinion on 3M paint protection film? I have a new car and would like to prevent chipping. Is it worth the $300? I am getting my windows tinted and they are offering this to me. Thanks

How much would it cost you to repaint the area they are treating. I paid $500 for mine...had the hood, front fenders, grille, upper and lower bumber, headlights and foglights done. It would cost me well over $500 to have those areas (minus the lights) to be repainted. They use alot of sand during winter and will doing nothing but sandblast my front bumper...It was worth it to me...

I'm with runnerbl, they are worth the money. I regret not buying one when I bought my new car. Reason being, I now have 2 nice paint chips, one on the hood and another on the front bumper. If I had gotten it, those wouldn't be there. With it being a clear film, it doesn't even degrade the look of your vehicle (i personally think those black things are hideous). It's a great item.

Well what protection do you expect to have with a strip of film merely 10" wide ? How about the rest ? Besides, the film only protects the hood' s tip area. The rest is exposed... And if your car is of a dark color, the film will horribly show against the background.

Do yourself a favor : drive slower and lave a greater gap between the car you tail and yourself... It' s free and will save you lots of gas and chip repair money...

If the option they are offering you is the Clear Bra (which is made from 3m film) and your doing the whole bumper than many would say it's worthwhile.

A repaint on a bumper will cost you about that if not $100.00 more. I wish I had my front bumper done on the Audi when I got it last year. Believe me it don't take long for the front end to start showing street wear, no matter how slow or fast you drive.

Some people only will get the front half of the hood and fenders done as well. I can see where if that is not done right it will leave a tell tale line.

Make sure they wrap the bumper. I've seen too many poor installations where they just cut it by the edge and you can see the line. IMO, it doesn't look good.

For $300, I think it's worth it (for the bumper alone).

I'm not a fan of the partial hood bra. That's just me.

Two of my friends have had them done by these guyz...and a third friend is getting it done soon. I can't see it on the bumpers. I'm going there for a clinic this weekend :woot:

My next car will get it ...front and back. This one is 3 years old...too many scars

....Oh, you can check out www.xpel.com to see the type of off the shelf kits they offer. Installation is not easy IMO.

I would at least get the bumper done as that would be the most vulnerable for stonechips. If done properly, you can't see it. My car has the front bumper and front 1/4 of hood. I do these installs myself, click for larger pics....

It shows horribly against a dark color? Really? Here's the hood of my 2005 Mercury Montego, with X-Pel's clear bra on the hood. You can find an even larger version of this photo in my Autopia Gallery. It's already saved me from several stone hits.
