I painted my brake calipers over the weekend. I used red VHT spray on paint. During the process I had the garage door opended most of the time but I did close it during a rain storm we had.
I cleaned the windshield yesterday with a microfiber cloth and noticed a small amount of red was being transferred onto the cloth. Once I noticed this I decided to wash my car.
After washing I decided to polish the rear bumber due to some minor scratches I noticed in direct sunlight. The car is a garage queen and is rarely driven. The bumper polished out fine using Meguiars #82.
I also decided to polish the hood and here is where I ran into an issue. After polishing one section of the hood I noticed that the white polishing pad has some red paint on it. It did not have a huge amount but it bothered me. The paint also felt a little rough. Normally the paint on my car is very smooth.
At this point I shoud have clayed the car but I did not. I kept polishing using #82. I switched to a fresh pad often and polished the entire car. Afterwards the paint was smooth again and it looks great.
Is there any harm in what I did (polishing and not using clay)? It seemed that the #82 removed the small paint overspray fine. In the future I will most definately use clay. I guess I just went into panic mode yesterday and did not think.
