Paint defect has me scratching my head

I had this small circular blemish on a horizontal section of my front bumper alittle bigger than a pencil eraser. It has small tiny pits/dimples in it totalling 5-8 in that small area. I thought these were fish eyes. I had this one for awhile now over a year atleast and the car is now 3 years old. Well while washing the car today I noticed a new one on my hood scoop of the Stang. I thought fisheyes only came from improper prep in painting or use of silicone products after a repaint before it has cured? This car is factory paint never been repainted. I take very good care of this car and I hope so because I'm on here :grinno:. What could have caused this wish I had some pics but camera is MIA, if you have any you could throw up that sounds like what I have I'd appreciate it :xyxthumbs



Now this car is under warranty, God forbid they cover this thing and I take it to a dealership :scared: to get painted I see the nightmares coming :nervous: !

Are you meaning solvent got on the paint?



This is the original paint, never had any repainting. What do you not enough flash time :think: ?

Could these be bird poop etching and wouldn't the etching have showed a short time after the incident? One of the spots I remember a bird crapping there a month or two ago(How I remember this and not people's birthday I'll never know :grinno: ) I cleaned it quickly when found that same day.



But would the etching occur like described above later down the road?



Where is a good place to see pics of paint defects, so maybe I can link it here?

It's some kind of acid, if not acid rain than most likely bird droppings. When Ketch used to talk about acids entering the resin system and continuing to do damage as water re-activated the acids, this is exactly the type of damage he is talking about.
 
i think i know what you're talking about, having similar problems on my mustang. i think i remember sean saying how ford paint is junk and pits and etches quite easily, so maybe it's a result of polishing that area.
 
As my car reaches 3 years old it sometimes gets hard to keep paint a 100%, especially as a daily driver. But I know it passes the 5ft rule and marring/hairlines are minimal and probably only noticeable to me, actually I'm probably the only one who knows the defects are there :nervous:. This is definetly a hobby that can make you crazy, sometimes you have to accept that 95% perfection on a daily driver and remember it looks better than 99% of cars on the road :clap: !

Not quite sure I would call Ford paint "junk" but, Fords and it seems even more so on the Mustang that the paint is rather soft and will dent/chip pretty easily. That can be a blessing when you are trying to remove blemishes and a curse when you have a daily driver and can't always drive on perfect roads :D I have to say South Carolina has been much harder on my cars than Florida ever was.



My front bumper cover got really messed up while I was away at a training seminar and left the Mustang with the wife. She drove it to work every day and unfortunately there was road construction on her way. I now have some scratches and pitting from the rocks they lay down. I probably would have found a different route to work even if it took twice as long. The wife on the other hand sees even the Mustang as just a means of getting from point a to point b. I love her dearly but, I really wanted to slap her silly when I came back from the seminar and saw the mess :( Ahhh now I see it as the perfect excuse to replace my stock bumper cover with a Roush Stage III bumper cover ;) Now that I think of it the hood has a few chips as well, maybe a new Cervinis cowl induction hood hmmm........

I bet a 30X magnifer would be handy to see the extent of the paint damage better. :up

Here is an extreme close-up of fisheyes on my bumper cover. Is this similar to what you are seeing? Fisheyes look like little craters in the paint.
