Paint Curing Time

I have read on Meguiars website they advise 3 months before waxing/sealing. 3M's website gives the 1 month rule. And of course there is the usual "Ask the painter/bodyshop". Problem is I cannot contact the bodyshop since they have gone out of business.

The paint on the vehicle is at least 1 month old. Should I wax/seal? If so, should I go with carnauba (Natty's) wax or a polymer sealant (EX-P).

BTW I plan on using SSR1 along with a Glaze before/if I wax/seal.

30 days is the minimum recommendation. My friend has a body shop with a big user base. He uses both 3M and PPG products. He said after 30 days you are good to go. Actually, depending on the chemicals used, sometimes 2 weeks could work, but be safe and wait 4 weeks. Usually by then, the glaze is gone and you can see the buffer marks you need to remove.

I have had a few panels on different cars painted, I have polished and sealed after 30 days with no problem.

DON'T go by what your body guy tells you. From my dealing they know howto paint a car and do the body work but that is about it. Mine told me once to wax it right away and that left my paint crappy and soft for the remainder of its life.

It's better to wait out a bit longer than you think you need. Especially in your case, where the people who did the job have since gone under and can't give you a good reccomendation. I would go with the 3 month wait, just be sure to keep it clean.

well you have quite the dilema...do you know what kind of paint was used?
that would help a bit...some paints like the new Sikkens paints, can actually be waxed and sealed within days, then some synthetic paints should wait 60-90 days and most of the Dupont and PPG basecoat/clearcoat systems if done right can be done in 30-45 days ....If you have no information, the I'd suggest at least 45-60 days to be safe...you can polish the vehicle at any time, and even a wax wouldn't be that bad after 30 days, but the sealant should wait.
it's hard to give accurate info when info is missing:dunno

Well that is the main problem is I have no info. I do not know what brand of paint was used, but with a bit of digging may be able to find out, but by that time it will probably be safe to use a sealant!

But that was my main question, is that after a month, would it be safe enough to use Natty's at this point. I will give the owner the options and let him decide.

As long as your wax has no solvents and/or abrasives you can wax it hours after a repaint.

PwC has been a great first time polish for me and repainted work. It cleans up the new paint well, while leaving just enough Carnuba to offer some protection while allowing any final drying. I just passed 35 days on my Maxx's repainted door and hood (Painted with Dupont ChromaPremier Base and 7900 Utherane Clear which has a safe 30 day window).

I hit it with Pwc (WOW!!! Looks better than delivery) and I will redo the entire car in another 2 weeks.
