Conundrum
2006 Accord V6 6spd Coupe
Hey all,
Well my car (2006 Graphite Grey Metallic Honda Accord) just got hit by a chunk of dirt with a few stones in it while on the freeway, which did very minor damage near the joint where my A pillar basically meets the hood. Chip is circular and around 1-2mm in diameter or so in size. Its not so much the look that worries me, its more the fact that it could begin to rust out as there is nothing protecting the metal in that spot.
From what I have read, I figure my best option is to go buy a paint pen from Honda for my colour and fix it that way, as people say the brush paint option can cause more harm than good. If I use the paint pen I guess I just lightly "colour in" the area that was hit, with a bit extra around the edges so it forms a better seal? Also, do any of you know if touchup paint is normally base mixed with clear, or do people typically put something else on over the paint after touching up?
Lastly, does anyone have any tips on what I should do before touching up, how to touch up, or after touching up? (however I am not sanding down anything) I have also read before that after applying touch up paint you cannot wash the car or do anything for 30 days so the paint will cure properly on the car...is this true? If its not true, I do use an electric pressure washer to wash my car, but I always use the most sparse stream it can provide and stand back around 6-8 feet from the car hitting it on an angle.
Thanks in advance. If it would help if I took pics let me know and I'll take some either later today or tomorrow.
