Paint chip repair

Okay, I have no idea how to do this and don't really trust myself to do it anyway. . . I washed the car today and discovered a paint chip on the door by the passenger side window. No idea what cauesd it, but it looks to go all the way to the primer or metal, can't tell for sure. Anyway, it's not huge, but definitely something I want fixed.

Any idea what it would cost to get it done professionally? It's roughly half the size (or a bit larger) of the positive terminal on a AA battery. . . . since that's the closest thing I have in front of me to compare it to :)

Any ideas what it would cost to have it done right?

I had a similar problem with a Jeep I had a while back. I took it to a body shop and was informed that the entire panel would have to be stripped and repainted for it to look right. At a cost of close to $500.00, I decided to buy touch up paint and fill in the chip. It took several applications to fill the chip completely, allowing almost a day between applications. I then took 2000 grit sandpaper and wet sanded ever so lightly. After polishing several times, it was hard to notice where the chip was. I knew where it was, but most people could not tell. I am not a professional or expert at this by any means. This is just my personal experience. Did you download the Autopia guide to detailing? There is a section in there that goes into detail on to repair deep scratches and chips. It is free. I found it extremely informative. Good Luck.

Im not sure where you are located...but one of my family friends has his own business called the "Paint Chip Pro" or something like that. He explained what he does, he doesnt fill the chip in at all, but he sprays the color into the chip to make it appear as if it is gone. Supposedly it works really good, he was going to do his sisters BMW hood the other day when I was talking to him. He does a lot of work on luxury cars and is busy all the time so it must look good :nixweiss Maybe there is some sort of service like this where you live? I thought it was interesting, although I dont understand the whole process yet. Good luck to you

If it were me, I'd fill up the chip with touch up paint (from the dealer, colour matched). Build up the layers until it is just above the normal paint level. Then I'd clay it back down to the level of the surrounding paint after letting it dry for about 30 minutes.
