Paint bubbling

Anyway, I was washing and waxing my car today and when I got done, I stood back and took a nice look at the car. I noticed the dent in the driver's rear door, which hurts every time I see it. I noticed something funny looking on my door. A closer inspection revealed bubbling. What do I do to stop it from spreading. It isn't terrible yet, but is there something I can do now to stop it? Kinda as a temporary fix.



Now when I get to college in August, I plan on doing something about my dented rear doors - either PDR, or buy red doors that will fit from a junkyard and have the whole car repainted.
 
That's a rust-out coming through from the inside. No easy way to fix it, that kind of thing calls for a (costly) trip to a good bodyshop.

Yeppers and that is IF you can find a body shop to repair it. I tried to get some rust fixed on an old Civic of mine and no shop would touch rust because they said they can't guarantee rust and customers are never happy when the rust comes back through. The shop that did a custom paint on my old truck said they would do it just as a favor but they also said they would not guarantee that the rust would not come back. The proper way is to cut that panel out and weld a new one in but then you have to make sure the shop REALLY is good. I have seen a lot look good right from the shop and then a year or two later start to rust where the welding was done.
 
Yep, so true about how it's a crap-shoot when you mess with rust. But OTOH I've also had some pretty scary rust fixed and it never came back. Trick is to find a shop that'll fix it right.
 
A trip to any body shop won't be able to happen until this summer or later. I heard I should sand it out then prime and spray in with paint.

You can do that but it will come back. I ended up fixing the rust on my Civic and it looked great and then after the winter it was bubbling again. What I usually do is grind it down. Clean it really good, then spray some naval jelly on it and let that soak good and clean the spot again then do the whole bondo thing and then primer and paint.
 
Well, I myself *would* sell it and get something without rust...but I'm not writing the check either.



I wouldn't bother trying to do a temp repair if it were mine. I'd live with it until you can get if fixed or until you replace it.



If you do want to try a temp repair (IMO it'll look *worse* but anyhow...) check out the products at Eastwood and POR-15.
 
We don't have a huge expense account.



As far as selling the car for something else, it is a 2001 Taurus with 33000 miles on it. It's in great shape, just a few minor aestetic blemishes. My parents think it is only going to be around for a few more years anyway then I'll have to get something else.



Anyway, today after school, I went out and sanded, primed and painted. It didn't come out too bad except the color doesn't match perfectly. Anything out there I can use to fade the paint? It was just a temporary fix because we're going on a week vacation in the car and I don't want to have the paint bubbling like that.
