paddle shifters VS. manual stick shift

I have had automatic and manual trannies in cars. For a daily driver especially in DC rush hour traffic, automatic is the way to go. I love the new DCT/DSG type transmission and to me they offer the best of both worlds. For a weekend driver, stick shift is the way to go.
 
i ran into a guy at the sports store and he was wearing an acura t-shirt (he worked for them), i mentioned that TL's are pretty nice but like many, they are falling victim to the paddle shifters. he mentioned that they have had some problems with them over-revving...
 
If you're talking about high end, like Ferrari, Lambo, and new Porsche PDK, they are incredibly fun to drive. Even more so than a manual transmission, and the shift is so fast. It's also a lot of fun just listening to that italian V8 or V12 behind you blurping the throttle when downshifting. If it's a normal car with paddle shifters, then a manual is definitely the way to go IMO.

Yes, the difference is a dual clutch gearbox vs a regular slushbox with a torque converter and some paddles. But even a lot of "not so high end cars" have dual clutch gearboxes now. BMW 3 series, M3s, most Audi models, Mitsu Lancers, and even... the Ford Fiesta.
