Pad that comes w/PC - any good?

Hey gang, my PC showed up the other day, from Coastal Tools. It came with a white pad. Is this pad any good? Thanks for any info.

I think it's good beacuse it bolts up directly to the threaded socket thus making a more solid pad... it's in the polishing area of agressiveness... not cutting or finishing.

Actually, I think those pads are terrible. When you turn the speed up on the PC, the frictional heat of the pad causes it to tear when the pad is joined to the mounting plate, and starts to spew up bits of foam.

How do I know this? I went through 3 of them before I got my hook and loop backing plate. The hook and loop pads are not jointed to a mounting plate, so this problem doesn't happen.

In favor of another polisher or by hand??
In favour of a rotary, which he already used if I recall right! Thunderingbird is one of the dissenting voices that did not like using the PC. ;) This is no surprise though, if he was already good at using a rotary...

The instructions with the machine say not to operate it at high speed without the pad against the surface; I did it with one and yes, it ripped apart. The second pad I took care not to do that, but it's still pretty fragile. I got one car out of it, and probably won't get another.
