Pad Recommendations?

I have a Makita 9227c. In the past, I haven't gotten a lot of call for full paint correction. For about 98% of my customers, I normally use a white or orange LC CCS pad with D151. They love it and it doesn't take me too long. I'm starting to get more call for paint correction. Most people only want to pay for 90-95% perfect paint. I use M105 with the 9227c/standard backing plate/7" orange/green/yellow LC CSS pad. Then M205 with a white LC CCS pad. Sometimes I stop at that, sometimes people will pay for more and I go on to Z-5 or Wolfgang deep gloss paint sealant. The good news is that the customers are always thrilled and to most anyone the paint looks 100%.

I have experimented on my own cars to get to 99% perfect paint I never can. There always seems to be miro-swirls, scratches or spider webs that I can see in the sun and it drives me crazy!! I can never seem to make the paint perfect.

Can someone recommend some new pads (for full correction) and new backing plates? I have been doing everything with the 7" backing plate and I'm finding that something smaller would be better on some vehicles.

Well, I'd start with getting a finishing pad. You have polishing and compounding pads, but no finishing pads. Examples would be black, blue, or red in LC colors. Some people say they have problems with finishing out M205, so it might be worth your while to work on your technique or invest in a fine finishing polish like 85RD or FPII from Menzerna. As far as size, I personally like the big mushroom shaped 7.5" CCS pads and keep a few 4" spot pads if those don't fit somewhere. I have some 6.5" and 5.5" as well but just don't use them much.

I have both black and blue CCS LC pads. I rarely use them because they tend to heat up the M205 and dry it onto the paint, rather then removing it. I have Menz 85RD. I normally see little difference between 85RD and 205, so I use 205 because it is cheaper.

So, what pads are you using?
