pad re-usage

Can you switch from an aggressive compound to a less aggresive polish on the same pad, or is it impossible to clean the first product off safely?

Yes, a newbie question, but i've searched and failed.

If it's acceptable, what is a good cleaning process? Is this OK for microfiber towels, applicators, etc as well?

Thank you,

Rob

I've never tried that; however, I mix Optimum Polish with other things without an issue. What products are you using?

SFX-1, IP and FPII.

I also have AIO and paint cleansing lotion.

My concern is abrasives would remain in pads I cleaned from earlier products and compromise the finish I'm trying to achieve with lighter products.

Do I basically have to dedicate pads of varying aggressiveness to every product I'll use, or do they clean up with washing and can be considered virgin again?

It is not recommended that you mix products on the same pad. Even after washing the pad I prefer to dedicate that pad to the same polish as it is difficult to remove 100% of the polish. I label the bag so that I do not mix them up. It is just a safer way to go. Mixing will compromise your finish. In addition, you will get better results from a final polish by using a finishing pad, so you would not want to use the same aggressive pad with a final polish anyway. This is straight from the Menzerna website "Never mix polishes on a foam pad and never use a pad you’ve used for compounding for polishing."
