Pad got "cut" by backing plate. Machine or Human fault?

Used LC Orange, PC, LC 5" backing plate. Using DACP and moderate pressure on initial passes. After half a truck noticed the pad was "cut" all around the velcro from the rough edges of the LC backing plate. Seems to me a 6" pad would chew the he*l out of an Orange Pad. Or, was it operator error?

Anyone use the Porter C. flexible plate 5 or 6"? Looks like it has some "thick/soft" edges that might have prevented this.

Also noticed the CMA pads give that extra 1/2" of velcro on the pad that might help prevent the "cut" from the pad edge.

I honestly think it's a backing plate problem... all pads i've used with our dewalt orbital gets chewed up... 3m, cma, lc, meg, tw...

Sometimes I get that, but not too often. Seems to happen more frequently as the pads age and more often with some backing plates than with others. Maybe look into a different backing plate. The PC-brand ones are pretty easy on pads. You can use a 6" PC-brand plate without chewing up your pads.

But yeah, I like the 5" flex plate. It does seem easier on the pad and I just like it better. It's sorta become my "standard" PC backing plate, used with the 6" counterweight.
