Pad Discussions

Yeah, that green *is* more aggressive than the white. It leaves the surface with a scoured look whereas the white doesn't. You're comparing putting a good amount of pressure on the white pad to just using the green if I'm understanding what you're saying.

I'm referring the Green foam carried by Autogeek. It is in fact rougher to the touch than the white foam (and I don't dougt it leaves the surface is worse condition) but I still feel the white foam removes defect just as fast under an equal amount of pressure via a rotary because the white foam tends to grip the paint, causing more friction...and it heats the panel up rather quickly, which also makes it more aggressive. Via a DA, I my gut tells me the green might be ever so slightly more aggressive. I could get my ETG out and polish 8-10 times to see which is removing more clear, but even others without an ETG could compare by seeing which removed sanding scratches faster, but I don't think you ever find a notiable difference between the two.

Regarding the green ccs foam vs. the white ccs foam, I should also say that even though I don't have a ton of experience with this "new" green foam, I have a prototype PII pad that never went into production that as made of foam that seems to be identical (other than the color) of the green ccs foam. I've probably logged 50 hours experimenting with this pad. I don't think it went into production because it tended to sling (due the low PPI) under high rotary speeds. And even though it's rougher to the touch, I consider this pad to be less aggressive than the white foam.

Are you being sarcastic? Did you recently pick up some of the 6.5" flowered edge AB pads? If so, where and how much? Now that I think about it, several months back someone PM'd me saying they were available somewhere.

No, I'm serious. I ordered the pads from Anthony Orosco through his website (http://www.shop.ultimatereflections.com/main.sc) a few months ago. One of two blue pads was the flowered edge and both green pads were the flowered edge. I'm guessing he's out of the blue ones since I only got one. I'm not sure if he has anymore of the others left or not.

OK Let's get on the same page first. What size green pad are you talking about from AG?

6.5" CCS. But my friend, you could easily be right, in fact, via DA I'll concede that the green 6.5" CCS is more aggressive than the white, and by rotary it's too close to call (but personally I'll go with the white). I'm just very partial to the white, in fact, getting back to the question that spawned this discussion, I don't much care for the orange pads any more either...I think the white is 90% as strong as the orange and much more pleasant to work with.

OK, I was thinking the more aggressive green.

I find that the 6.5 green will remove as much as the white but finish better. I *hate* the white pad with everything I have via rotary. I've never used the 6.5 green with the DA but the 5.5 is nice.

This car was finished with the green 6.5 CCS from AG...

The CMA orange 7.5" pad has me using them again on the rotary. I don't know if it truly has anything to do with the blue foam that is added but it works a lot better for me than flat 6.5" orange pads.

After all the help RAG gave me yesterday - a lot of rotary advice! THANKS! Anyway, I've got the wanna buff with rotary spirit and now SpoiledMan has me wanting to try those CMA 7.5" pads, they sure look cool, did you get the orange and the green and do you have any tips on using them?

No real tips. I'm sure Ryan gave you tone of good info. As a beginner you might want to pick up a blue pad or two for finishing. You'll feel a lot better about yourself at the end of the day.

I got LC blue and 3M Ultrafina blue pads. I was thinking about the 3M soft gray polishing pad and some 106 or 87 depending on the paint on that Acura TL I got coming. It was so dirty I couldn't see any swirls or scratches in it when I did my initial once over. I'll probably need a new clay bar after that! BTW, it's light silver (I think!)

Try to use a backing plate that fits the recessed backing perfectly. That way max buffing surface will be utilized (even though their curved).

From AG: CCS 7.5 foam pads, lake country 7.5 inch pads, 7 inch ccs foam pads, ccs pads by lake country, lake country mfg, lake country manufacturing

I was thinking about these for my rotaries (Makita & Metabo). I'm still learning the rotary though.

Once, and I really really don't like the curved shape. Not for me. When I hold thiese curved pads flat, I don't feel like much surface area is actually contacting the paint...and then I have all this excess foam on the edges...I kinda feel like these pads were desigend to be held up on edge. The only thing these pads are good for are getting under mirrirors and whatnot where smaller pads have a hard time reaching.

ok,

no one mentioned anything about the cobra cross groove pads, so is it safe to assume not too many people on here use them ?

if thats the case

do you guys suggest flat or ccs 6.5" lc pads ?

i have been using flat, but ccs in 4"
