Pad centering

Guys, I am going to slowly get into the Edge system for the Rotary. However I have a boat load of LC 6.5 inch pads that I bought for the PC that I am going to use on a Rotary (soon as I get it). None of these pads have a hole in the middle, velcro gos right up to the edge of the pads so I am fairly sure that the backing is "PUR" glued, so lucky for me (bought at AG).

I can see this problem coming and thought it best to contact and ask before I do something dumb as usual.

Question: I'll be using a LC 4 3/4 inch flexible backing plate from AG (haven't ordered yet). This gives a 1 3/4 inch overlap of the pad which the pros think is fine.

Problem: How in the hell do you center the pad as best you can under these circumstances?

That is a fair amount of distance variation, is there some trick, or is the trick that I just have to play with it, which doesn't seem very effective or efficient.

Get your self a backing plate with either a hole in the middle or one with a centering button built in (Meguiars Backing Plate). Other than that it is trial and error.

This was another reason for me to switch to the edge2K system, i wont ever have to worry about this.

How is a backing plate with a hole in the middle going to help center a pad without a hole, or am I missing something?

I believe he's referring to the meguiar's pads, which do not have a hole, but a dimple in the velcro where the centering button is supposed to slide into.

Personally I wouldn't worry too much about the centering issue. You can easily eyeball it, and it doesn't need to be 100% perfect.

Change...after awhile you get a eye for it and you get them centered pretty well....they do not need to be 100%..but doing it enough you get better and they come very close to centered....you be be ok ...takes a little time...

Point taken. I thought it was operator error/experience but I had to check, hope you understand!

Thanks, Changeling

Thanks for the "faith" Al, I'm starting to need it.

The odd part about "Everything" is most of the older people think I'm out of my mind but most all the younger people think I'm Awesome. Go figure, I personally have never doubted that I am Awesome:D

, just dam slow.

PS. Al, I ordered the Hitachi Rotary last night.
