Pad Advice

 I have just recieved my Porter cable ready for this weekend :buffing:

The process i am going for is the following:

Zaino ZPC

Zaino Z5 (3 layers)

Zaino Z2-Pro (2 Layers)

Also will be doing a Z6 coat between each layer of polish and a Z8 to finish

I have the full set of SFX pads including the new Orange Swirlbusting Pad

Question is what are the best pads to use on this process, car has a fair few swirl marks to remove.

I would guess using the Swirl Buster for the ZPC, White pad for Z5 and then Blue pad for Z2 ??? Does this sound about right ?? And should these all be done with a speed of 4 - 4.5 ?

Also would anyone recommend using the DAS Buffing bonnet to remove residue or am i better by hand ??

Sorry for all the questions but you are the guy's in the know

It's personal preference as to whether you want to apply your Z5/Z2 by hand or by machine; I would suggest by hand. You do realize that even though Zaino calls them "polishes" Z5 and Z2 are strictly LSP's, with no abrasive or polishing action? IMO, you will want to do two polishing steps, use the ZPC with the Swirlbuster pad and then again with the SFX white pad. This combo may or may not remove deep swirl marks as the ZPC is not that aggressive. I would then apply the Z5/Z2 by hand and make sure you use ZFX.

Yeah I wouldn't expect too much in the way of swirl removal from Z-PC, regardless of pad choice.

I would apply Z5 and Z2 by hand.

the use of ZPC will clean paint very well no matter what abbarsive polish you use prior to its use.

As far as applying Zaino with the PC it would be my choice to use a finishing pad on speed 3. Although I apply Zaino Z2 and Z5 by hand most often I have used the PC with just as good of results. Either way just remember that thin is in when it comes to Zaino.

hi,

because u need so little zaino a pad would absorb way too much before it could be used effectivley.. i just did my car and considered the pc.. the application was so easy that the pc would have actually been couterproductive IMHO... and the results speak for themselves..

so does the marring u cannot see by me not using the pc correctly... i will have to redo the hood...

just my 2 cents

I always remove products by hand, because you can't cover everything with the PC. You'll always have to apply some by hand, and remove some by hand. This is one of the reasons I rarely apply any LSP by PC.

Had a quick go with the Porter cable for the first time the other evening, I recently bought a Hardtop for my car and the previous owner must have cleaned it with a grinder :down

I am doing the full car this weekend but was itching to have a go :buffing:

I picked a fairly marked rear quarter of the hardtop and tried with a swirlbuster pad and SFX-2. This was literally 5 minutes work:

I am very impressed with the porter cable and can't wait till tomorrow :buffing:
