I've got a white 96 Mustang Cobra that I keep pretty clean and polished. Currently I am using Meguiars #7 followed by a coat of #26. In a few weeks I plan to do a spring detail on the car and was planning to do the following (in order):

1. Wash with Dawn

2. Claybar (never been done and needs it-rail dust!)

3. Meguiars #2

4. Meguiars #7

5. Meguiars #20

6. Meguiars #26

Will these products work well together, or should I skip one or more steps? I know it looks like alot, but it takes alot to get a white car to really shine. Any advice is appreciated. BTW, I normally use only Meguiars products because I have had good luck with them and they are available without mail ordering. But any suggestions will be accepted

Thanks, Brooke:xyxthumbs

Sounds like a godd Meguiars plan.

I would skip the #7 since the #7 is basically oils and fillers and the #20 will clean all that off so it is just a wasted step.

I would
1. Wash with Dawn
2. Wash with Meguiars Gold Class wash
3. Clay (what kind of clay are you using?)
4. Meguiars #2
5. Meguiars #20 (allow it to cure for 24 hours before applying #26.)
6. Meguiars #26

What do you plan to do to maintain the finish?

Meguiars Gold Class wash can be found at Target for $10 a gallon.

If you don't want to mail order you can use Meguiars QD, but if you want I have a bottle of Eimann Fabrik Clear Pearl I don't even use anymore. I guess about 85% of the bottle is left. PM or e-mail me at JasonC8301@aol.com for details.

I definatly know what its like trying to get a white car to shine. Check out the link in my sig. My car is white and I had the hardest time getting it to look good. I used to use the same list that you have. I didn't use the #20 because I didn't have access to it. By the time I got my hands on some #20 I discovered Klasse and that removed the need for the rest. Now I just stick with Klasse and Souveran carnuba wax. Blackfire is my latest experiment but Klasse was a top preformer.

You have my dream car. I had a 97 Mustang but it was green. That was my favorite car but I was always looking at getting a white Cobra. You have the best body style too. The pre 99 style is my favorite. Post pics when you can. I'm jealous. :xyxthumbs

Thanks for the responses and advice.

Jason- Thanks for reminding me to wash with the GC (I usually use it). As far as maintenance goes I will wash with GC once a week and follow-up with Meguires FI. Every 4-5 weeks I will either do a #20 followed by #26 or #7 and #26.

jugrbrdman- NICE CAR! Yea, white looks great once you get the shine. I will post pics when possible (don't have a digital cam)!

Your welcome

Meguiars #20 every 4-5 weeks is not needed. #20 is good for 5-6 months since you are topping it with the #26.

I would just apply Meguiars #20 2X a year and Meguiars #26 every 4 weeks and Meguiars #7 every second or third #26.

I am pretty sure 02 is for a rotary buffer only.

If you are doing the paint cleaning by hand I would use their Medallion Paint Cleaner.

I called their tech support to confirm this last year and the guy was adamant about it.
