P21s GEPC and clay question

quick questions:

Is it alright to apply GEPC 'before' polishing? I tried it recently to complement the clay bar and IPA wipedown as part of stripping the car down to as clean a surface as possible. Things turned out great, but I just wanted to check if anyone disagrees....

also, as far as the wash/clay/wash part goes...is it ok to NOT wipe off the clay and lube immediately and just wash it off instead? Things seemed ok when I did it ( the lube and residue dried on the car by the time I was done) then I washed it off. I hope it doesn't cause any probs that i don't know about. It certainly saved time and may have saved some micro marring by eliminating the MF wiping it off.

This might have been a no brainer, but i wasn't clear when people here wash/clay/wash; whether the residue etc was wiped off first and THEN washed....

Note that IMO you oughta give more weight to your own first-hand experiences than to anything somebody else says (including me :D ) so maybe consider the following as just food for thought.

Arguably, the oils/fillers from the GEPC could make it harder for some polishes to do their job. OTOH it will clean the paint so the polish isn't dealing with any oxidation. I'd polish first but that's just me.

As long as it cleans of OK and doesn't cause marring then OK. I'd worry about some residual clay/lube mix drying into something abrasive, so I wash it off right away, working panel-at-a-time.

Good points. I chose to GEPC before polishing just in this specific case. It's not a habit, but I chose to do it this time because I was using the Sonus Ultra Fine green clay. I wanted to follow up with GEPC as a booster. Time will tell if it was a good idea. GEPC does fill and it could have impeded the polishing process.

I may try this next time. Maybe panel at a time with a sheepskin and 1 or two bucket method would work better than a MF wipe and present less micromarring risk.

snowskate- Yeah, I wash a panel, rinse it, clay it, rewash/rerinse it, then move on. The rewashing goes mighty fast as all you're dealing with is the clay/lube residue.
