Ozone Treatment vs Drivepur ....which is better?

Being in the detailing industry for 15+ years, and having my own company for 8 years now, I've come across so many products that claim to remove odors, but a majority of them are simply band aids/masks and do little for longevity.

So, my question to the pros out there that have used an ozone generator and drivepur....which is better?

I myself have used the ozone generator for a few years now, and I've had 1 complaint from a customer, and it was a simple mistake on our part, and it had nothing to do with the functionality of the system, more of a user error.

I have not used the drivepur system, although I did attempt to contact someone a couple years back, for some reason I had many difficulties getting in touch with anyone, as did others here on the forum.

Anyhow, I'm just trying to figure out if the drivepur is better, more effective, and I'm also trying to figure out the total cost factor.

Ozone machines are a fair investment, but it only takes a few jobs and its paid for and you can be in & out in less than an hour with most vehicles. I have no idea the cost of the drivepur system and its overall future costs.

Any feedback from fellow Autopians would be greatly appreciated.

If your branding yourself as an Eco car wash service then DrivePur is probably the better option for your brand. I have used both DrivePur and ozone (Corona discharge) over the years and have found drivepur to be more effective once you figure out how to use it. I cant compare it to a UV ozone machine which I believe is more effective than the Corona discharge.

DrivePur is more labour intensive and more costly per use than ozone but you can also charge more for it. Keep in mind that drivepur is not just an odor removal system...it is also a very effective anti-bacterial treatment. Also, drivepur continues working for about 6 months after application vs ozone which stops working as soon as the machine is pulled from the car (from what I understand).

In my opinion both machines are necessary in a professional setting.

Justin,

I'd be happy to come to Austin and do a few cars with you using the Drivepur System.

Send me your email address and I will send you an image of tar and nicotine that I removed from a 2012 Corvette on Monday. The vehicle had heavy smoker damage.

The vehicle had just left detail and as you'll see we were able to remove the residue left behind from a smoker, you're not going to get these kind of results from an ozone machine.

Our equipment cost is comparable to an ozone unit with chemical cost adding about $8-$12 per treatment.

I've used both ozone and drivepur. In my experience, a thorough application of DrivePur is the best. I've had mixed results with ozone and along with it being harmful, long term, to the interior I no longer offer it. It's a $550 DrivePur application or nothing now.

I've used DrivePur on vehicles that ozone was unable to effectively treat.

The ONLY time the treatment was ineffective was one time when someone literally poured a whole bottle of cologne INTO a seat. DrivePur could not treat where it could not get. I explained that they needed to have the seat replaced, and then the system would work completely.

It is also excellent being able to sell the antibacterial treatments in addition to the smoke treatments. DrivePur for the win. :)

Jean-Claude, I appreciate the feedback, I am curious about the $550 amount you put in your post. Is that what you charge for a Drivepur application? I ask this because I'm going to need to figure out a pricing structure for the system, especially since it will cost me more $ to get into and will be an ongoing cost in the future. Any other feedback will be helpful, Thx

Mark, Thank you as well for your feedback, and yeah I could only imagine what that vehicle smelled like.....yikes! Most of the customers requesting odor removal are folks who have purchased a vehicle and it smells like cigarette smoke and they want it gone. For me, especially since we have gone Eco roughly 2 months ago, I need something that I feel comfortable with, not a machine that turns the air into a gas, not to mention the EPA wont endorse Ozone and it pretty much says that manufacturers are stating what their systems do without any true scientific evidence to back it up. Either way, I'm looking forward to talking more with Drivepur / pur World and hopefully getting to demo it! Thx
