Oxidized AL in engine bay

Do you guys use the PC to apply: a) Pinnacle Paintwork cleaner

b)P21S Paint Cleaner c)medalion premium paint cleaner. Which do you prefer? What is the order of abrasiveness? Which pad do you use, the white or yellow? Thanks in advance.

Before switching to Zaino this past week, I used to use Mediallion with the PC frequently. I liked the results, but would still clay the car first. The other products you mentioned, I have not used.
 
Check the recent threads, there is a thread which lists the abrasiveness of Meguiars products. The Medallion Paint Cleaner is more abrasive than even the Swirl Mark Remover #9 (2.0). I like Medallion, but was suprised by that rating. I'd use a PC for best results.
 
Question for the guru's out there (Flash, you are included :o):

Is there something that will help get the Aluminum back to a better look than the dull grey it becomes when it gets oxidized from the engine heat? How would you seal it afterwards?

I may just be going down a rat-hole again :White Horse:
 
I am certainly no expert on this topic, but you might want to try Engine Bright. It seems to me, that it might be what you are looking for. It is also stocked by just about every auto parts store.

Harry, I think your going down the rat-hole again X_X No, in all seriousness, I know of no product that will make your aluminum look any better then just having it clean. That is unless you wanna have your heads and manifold polished out \m/

BTW...Never use Simple Green on bare aluminum. Don't aslk me how I know this :-t
 
IF (note the big 'if') you spend the time to polish and make pretty...There are some high temp clear finishes available. VHT makes one, and there are probably more out there.

I did the polish thing on my truck's intake runner, then used VHT clear. That was the only part that was truly visible. Looked good (still does in-fact). But man was that a job.

For upkeep, I DO use Simple Green (rinse WELL) then CD2 for a finish.

Would I do this again...Naw. The CD2 is 'shiny' enough.

All my polished aluminium is just polished. I've never put anything else on it. Finally redid the rocker covers last year, but they really didn't need it.
 
I think the best way to keep the aluminum surface bright is to keep it clean. You should be cleaning the surface with water at least once in a week. If he is ready to spend some extra money then he can polish it. But the problem with polish is that it will last only for a very short period of time.

i have actually used a high temp clear before as well, it was a hell of a prep but it looked very good, and has lasted on my clients truck since i did it about a year ago. other than that, there is no way to polish dull uncoated aluminum to a shine that i have been able to accomplish.
