oxidation and AIO

I have been using AIO on my 14 yr. old oxidized car. I first did the entire car by hand (actually started in a small area and was Amazed at its ability and ended up doing the entire car by hand!)

Anyway, I then used AIO with the PC, and noticed a huge difference in shine. Lots and Lots of paint transfer in either case.

Now I noticed that when I went to apply some SSR2.5 to the car I noticed no difference in appearence, it actually kinda got a little worse. So I took SSR1 with the polishing pad and that seemed to get the shine back for the most part.

My Question is, do I need to use the SSR's after the AIO for any reason if I see no swirls or scratches? I *think* that the swirls and scratches were in the oxidized paint that I already removed.......

So should I just keep hitting the car with AIO until I feel satisified with the outcome. It is definately an amazing product!

Just looking for some insight.

Thanks.

Goose,

I would have recommended using your cutting polish first. AIO has a very fine abrasive that will bring up the gloss. It also does a great job removing oxidation.

This past weekend, Jonw440 and I did a Porsche 968 (Guards Red) that was very oxidized. We clayed, then I went around the car with a 4" spot pad on the rotary treating the scratches and bad spots. Jon followed behind me with a PC. We were able to save the paint without using an agressive cutting polish.

In most cases, there is no reason to machine compound a complete car... it has to be really bad for me to do the whole car. Spot treating is better and safer.

I suspect you could have done everyting with a couple passes of AIO.

David,

By cutting polish do you mean SSR's or AIO - it still gets a little confusing from time to time....lol

I used AIO Only on the entire car twice, once by hand then again by PC. It was quite heavily oxidized.

"I suspect you could have done everyting with a couple passes of AIO."

Yeah, that's only what I used. I shouldn't need to use anything like SSR's after? Should I just keep throwing AIO at it until I am satisfied.............

"it has to be really bad for me to do the whole car" - I think this one kind of fell into this area.

thanks.
