Overspray

Tried the search and none touch on my problem.



I was claying my windows (another problem) and noticed I've got a good bit of overspray (my Jeep is CharGold, so its hard to see) and it seems to be pretty tough (like kilz oil based or something, primer) I've tried the clay, medium swirl remover with a buffer.



Now the spots chip off with a fingernail, however its all over so that would take forever.
 
I've also got overspray on the car: the roof clear coat failed, and I had the roof re-painted. The body shop removed most of the overspray when I pointed it out, but there's a bit of ghosting on the passenger side door.



I don't have a PC or rotary: work by hand (and am inspired by Scottwax!).



Any tips? I've got Meguire's Fine Cut. Is this a decent product to try to remove the overspray?
 
There is clay made specificly for overspray. That may do more that the kind you are using right now. Speaking of which... what kind are you using now? ClayMagic makes two kinds; a red one and a blue one. The blue one is more comon and will work on most problems. The red one is more abrasive and may help take care of the problem that you have with your car.



Its possible that you'll need to use rubbing alcohol or something like that. I've had vehicles come in that were covered in tree sap. Clay wasn't going to help with that situation. I needed to disolve what I could and then clay off the rest. That may be the same thing you'll need to do in this case. Are you sure it is paint overspray and not something organic? It would be nice if it was just something simple like tree sap. lol
 
Damn sure its overspray, unless there is organic white stuff that falls in a mist form:D ! I've been using the blue magic, didn't even know they made a red. Where can I find it?



As for the rubbing alcohol. Am I'm going to be safe using that on paint, black molding and rocker cladding? Should I use RA as a lube for the clay bar?

Either Clay Magic Red or Meguiars Body Shop Pro Overspray Clay should take it off--a plastic razor blade can also remove the bulk of the overspray, but you have to be very careful and make sure the blade stays sharp. Try the stronger clay first though.
 
When I first got my BMW there was actually some white overspray on the Jet Black paint, on the left rear quarter panel. I was going to take it back to the dealer in Los Angeles but I thought I would try my Griot's Paint Cleaning Clay with a Quick Detailer first. In about 10 min. I removed all the overspray. I then polished the area and applied wax on top. To this day you can't see where the overspray was. Try any good clay with a QD first before anything else.

Windows only:Lacquer thinner is very strong so be very careful but you can use the lacquer thinner to remove the overspray on your windows. Do not get lacquer thinner on your paint! Do not get lacquer thinner on your paint. Do not get lacquer thinner on your paint.
 
I've got Zaino's clay. I'll give that a try, and go with the Clay Magic red if it doesn't remove it.



Bigger problem now: body shop went to work on the car and swirled the finish all up! Must of had some hack "wash" it. And even the hood and fenders that they supposedly "buffed" have fine swirls all over! I'm taking it back in on Monday, but I'm afraid to have them touch the car anymore.
