Overspray Removal Techniques

Nice and Cool
About 6 months ago my parents ran over some white road piant in GA. Needless to say they have paint spots all over the front 1/4 panel of thier 2003 Black, once shiny, Pontiac Grand Prix Executive Ed. I never even bothered noticing it until you guys got me hooked on detailing. I want to give it a go this weekend, but before I do I would like to know your techniques for the removal process. Without pics to help here is what I'm up against:

* White Paint Spots on front 1/4 panel---Minor
* White Paint Larger Spots on passenger door--
moderate
* White Paint all under front wheel well.

I've read several posts re: removal and so far have discovered the plastic razor blade for the wheel wells, mineral spirits for the body. I'm just a little weary of mineral spirits for the body...Any ideas or sugggestions are appreciated.

The MS will not hurt the paint...but you should do this at the wash stage....have some soapy water ready with hose ready to rinse...apply to the car let soak, but not dry on the car... then soap up and rinse....on the wells where it is real bad...I have used lacquer thinner but you want to be real careful with this and do not get on the paint

Clay is another good thing to have...but based on what you have said about the length of time its been on the car....clay might not be effective...still worth a try IMO

Lastly a somewhat aggressive polish will be needed to finish up removing what's left....I tend to like a chemical based one like PB PP but any good polish boarding on compound would be OK

I did this SUV years back...she had hit a can of white stripping paint...I used lacquer thinner to get this off...but I have a lot of experience with paint so I developed the process before I tackled this job

Dave,

Did the lacquer/paint thinner discolor the black trim molding at all?

it can, but as Dave said, you should have a bucket of soapy water ready right afterwards and don't let it dry ...also the applicator towel should be damp before the laquer thinner is applied to it. ;)

I used a very diluted amount of LT on a supper wet rag...like Steve said to wipe that plastic parts...the other hand had a old wash mitt with the soapy water ready....if you use it straight yes it will eat right threw the finish

The process for this job (paint only) was two buckets one soapy water...another with clean water...some APC in a spray bottle...LT and tons of old rags and GLOVES!

I went down the side of the SUV about 6x6 inch areas at a time so that I could keep good control over the area....

wet down
wipe with LT
spray with APC
wipe with soapy water
rinse

all this is done in a very fast process...the LT reacts quite quick on the paint so the next steps are equally fast so that I can stop the LT as quick as possible

Same was with the trim but diluted with water and I used a stiff plastic brush to loosen it up best as possible....it took me 8 hours total on this job.

In the wells I used the LT 100% and had no problems at all

The CC gets dull looking quite quick but with a rotary and the SSR2 I was able to bring that back..I then used the PC with SSR1 and sealed up

This was a neighbor of mine at the time...she was blowen away that I was able to get it off....I was too...LOL

Hi I just had to remove white paint from a black 2007 lexus the paint had been on the vehicle for approx a month. I used the red claymagic clay on the body and yes it took a while then had to polish with my pc to remove the marring from the clay the waxed over it. The wheel wells are plastic so most of the paint came off with my pressure washer and a graffitti remover, then sprayed them with black paint ( painted after getting cust. approval ) total time about 5 hrs.
