ouch-ruined my MF

Wasn't thinking and I buffed out some wax with MF towels. I tried washing them with Dawn. Any tricks to get these towels to absorb again? They're worthless right now.

I buff the wax with MF towels too with no problem. I think Dawn won't do any damage.

What kind or brand of MF do you have?

They're not ruined, you probably just used way too much wax and they are loaded up with the stuff. I would just machine wash them in hot water.

Jeez, buffing off wax is the reason I have mf towels!

I take mine to the laundromat, btw. The last time I did them at home, I got nagged for leaving a waxy ring in the washer. I separate MFs, regular white towels, and Concours/Koala type towels into 3 separate loads. I use the front-loading type washers. I throw foam applicators in with the white towels. I wash everything twice and dry them in 3 separate dryers.

And those are my Autopian credentials. Retentive about washing my applicators. (But I have had most of my MFs for about a year now, still MFing).

Thanks. Will try your suggestions. I've just washed them once and they're certainly good for buffing—good point!

Try soaking them in some hot water and mixture of liquid dawn and liquid tide over night. Then run them thru the wash by themselves. Jus make sure to rinse them maybe 3 times to get all the soap out of them.

After you wash the towels, soak them in vinegar for five minutes, than rinse them thoroughly. The acid in the vinegar will remove any old wax or soap residue, this will restore the towels absorbency.:)

This is my method;

MicrofiberTowel Care

Pre-soak in detergent / water and then squeeze out wax/polish with your hands and rinse thoroughly.Hand or machine wash in hot (>140oF) water with any detergent (P21S Total Auto Wash) that will remove

wax or polish. Rinse thoroughly twice, do not use bleach (bleach will shorten the life of your Microfiber cloths.) Do not use fabric softener (it leaves a film of silicone on the cloths, they will weaken the towels static charge thereby reducing their effectiveness) be careful when machine washing or drying in mixed loads (Microfiber cloths will pick up lint from other fabrics.) Air dry or put in dryer on low heat Microfiber will melt if subjected to high heat (235oF<). Colours may bleed during first washing.

I would also recommend washing new towels a couple of times before using to get the excess dye and sizing chemicals out. Don't use the same pad for different products unless they are washed first (i.e. don't use a towel for wax and then for polish unless you wash it first.
