Other cars on the road

Does anyone else notice that like 90+% of other cars on the road are FILTHY? It especially bugs me when they are nice (read: expensive) cars too!

It seems the only time I see a good condition car if its a brand new 07. Either people don't care.. (which i'm sure is a good portion), but I think its mainly because people are REALLY lazy. In my neighborhood I hardly see ANYONE else wash their car... guess they got better things to do, like sit inside and watch tivo :wall

Just my little rant for this evening :bat

I definatly hear ya. But the thing is, most people could care less of what their vehicle's paint looks like. As long as it's an Escalade/Mercede's/Ferrari, that's all that matters to them.

Yeah, that's the way it seems. In all honesty, I used to be one of them too, but that's certainly not the case now. ;)

From what I've been seeing here and other sites, it seems like the more expensive the car is, the crappier the paint and interior are.

I was at a rest stop one time in my 97 Taurus. This chic pulls up next to me in a sweet black BMW (can't remember the model) chatting on her cell phone. I turn to look and there's dried bird crap, heavy swirls and dirt all over the car. My beater of a car looked so much better.

Not much you can do. For some, a car is just a way to get to point A to point B. And on the weekends, point C. :woot2:

If they knew how expensive paint is, maybe...maybe they'd take care of it a little better. Clearcoat failure isn't hardly as catastrophic to them as an engine failure.

Unless you're a detailer, that is. ;)

I recall reading somewhere once that the paint is the second most expensive "system" in the car; the most expensive being the powertrain itself (motor and tranny). I don't know if that's true, but I wouldn't be surprised. A friend of mine just bought a used Lightning that had been keyed (pretty much every panel down to metal). I don't think he realized just how much a quality aftermarket paint job would cost before he bought it . . . he got a good price on the truck because of the paint damage, but ballpark estimates from a couple of quality shops to do a complete repaint are ranging from $4k - $6k.

That's what I heard as well.

Yeah, seems like when getting bodywork done, a repaint hits your wallet the most.

I think I read somewhere about a new kind of paint in development that supposedly "heals" itself. Like skin.

Imagine how much it'll cost if you have to repaint that for any reason...:nervous:

Yup. Even some of the newest cars rolling off of dealer lots, still left filthy. I always comment on this same exact thing!
