OTC products for new PC user

Dubbin - I thought that was the case but you can see it on the taped-off section also, so I'm not sure.

Did you maybe give it a wipe after you pulled the tape off? It just really looks like marring from a towel to me. There is just no way the pad would have caused marring under the tape.

Ive used UC a few times and like it. It works best, for me anyways, at speed 5 with a 5" pad. 6.5 is too big for a pc.

The look of that paint kinda looks like you are using a QD on the pad as you polish. After the pad is primed, with polish, i only add like 3 dots on the pad. I make about 3 passes with the pc (on speed 5) and wipe off.

UC doesnt need to break down, so it doesnt matter when you wipe it off, well, unless its become dry buffed. So i might wipe it off technically alittle early. Saves me from repolishing out some dry buff marks.

Im not a fan of alot of pressure using the pc. I think it corrects just fine with slightly more then the weight of the machine. With a hard 5" pad, the pad spins nice and polishes as good as a pc gets, all without causing more damage to the paint, and causing clumping polish.

There is no rule that says you need to always add more product when moving onto a new section either. If you feel you have to much product on your pad and are ready to move on., then do an 18"x18" section, even if onluy for 2 passes. Wipe down and add more polish.

anyways , im rambling

Well, I picked up a new bottle of UC and went to town on the VW. After trying the SwirlX on a white pad and then on the orange, I went right to the UC on the orange pad. Man this is rough. Had to make 3-4 passes (1 pass being 3-4 sweeps, wiping clean and observing) to get anywhere and there are still some swirls not coming out. There is a definite improvement though. It also seemed like there was hazing or holograms left over but I couldn't tell whether they were there already, just more apparent with the swirling almost gone. It didn't go away with some SwirlX follow-up.

I gave up after doing the hood and trunk lid. I hope the Mitsubishi isn't this hard. Any one have some information on them? I'm guessing the next step is smaller pads like you suggested Accu.

I know i mentioned it before, but I can't stress it enough, start with a taped off 1x1 area and see how that goes. Sounds like you "just want to get it done" and that often ends in disappointment and posts about how the PC just does not work.

JGM - I don't use a QD as I polish, just to help remove it.

Yakky - The tests were done on a taped-off section of the trunk and I was explaining how hard I found it.

I haven't done any more work on the VW, been spending time on the Acura.

My bad, the way you explained it made it seem like you were doing whole panels:

"I gave up after doing the hood and trunk lid."

No problem. I tried it in a few different spots where the sun was better and the swirls were better or worse to see how it was working.
