If you are still looking for some polishing action while preparing you for paint, then I'd say go with Mother's CG polish (#2 of their traditional 3 step system). It is a very good mild product that will help smoothen the paint (it won't produce trend setting results in terms of polishing, but it is a very good go between).
Another product that I would recommend if you would rather have just a light cleaning and a little wax before your serious lsp or wax, is to try Mother's Cleaner-Wax. It is a great product that will provide a nice cleaning and smoothening action while giving you just a hint of a wax shine.
