VROOOOOOM VROOOOOM! So here at Orinda Auto Detail word is getting around about what an amazing job we do! This is causing people to show up with all kinds of awesome cars! This one for example is a beauty! The beast of an R8 packed with a Lambo V10! Right out the gate when I saw the car I knew it needed a lot of help... Lets get on with it!

Upon arrival it was looking pretty lifeless. I still didn't mind looking at at :D

Thrashed wheels all the way around!

Very hard to capture the magnitude of how bad the paint was on this car because its white, and I'm taking pics with an Iphone. But here you see almost no clarity, tons of etch marks, and scratches.

The damage from improper previous car washers is obvious on this hard plastic lens, that paint looked worse... There is a very big scratch and shine tunnel type of car wash a town over from me that had only "hand washed" this car since it was new. This shows with out a doubt all "hand washes" are not the same. Just because you don't stick the you car in the big machine that thrashes paint does not mean that when they charge you more for a "hand wash" that it will be any better.

Dirty!

The carbon fiber in the engine bay looks lifeless...

So pulled into the wash bay to get started. I always start with the wheels. Using a combo of wheel woolies, wheel bright, and Iron X. The barrels needed wheel bright apparently at a tunnel car wash they dont clean barrels. After this I washed, Ironx'd, clayed the car so it would be properly prepped for the polishing steps.

I started in the engine bay after my decon.

Quick clay showed a lot of fall out here.

A lot of water spots, and what appeared to me more bad washing marks... Guess they tried to clean up the engine bay...

C.A.R. Products sent me over some goodies to play with so I though this would be a great test!

This compound has great cut and finish!

Had to remove the clips to polish all of it. After the Compound I used C.A.R. foam polish to really amp up the gloss. And as you can see it worked!

Same process as above for the rest of the engine bay! C.A.R. compound/polish gave outstanding results. I did a strong IPA wipe down on this and noticed no filling thats always a + when trying stuff you've never used! But I always say if your going to experiment the vehicle must cost 200k or it's not a worthy test!

Guess the car wash tried to buff this out at some time to and forgot to polish it.

All done in the engine! That carbon fiber looks amazing now! Even though the polish is called a "glaze" It actually an abrasive finishing polish. As part of my feed back on the product I suggested changing the name to foam polish because I saw this product after a strong IPA wipe downs did not fill at all. The compound did a little but it is expected as most compounds I've used fill a little.

Moving on to all the small stuff, that makes the biggest difference in the end product!

I used CAR compound/polish on this entire car. This is after that same combo! huge improvement!

All those improper "hand washes" leaving crazy amounts of damage everywhere being erased with ease!

Lots more damage to fix here!

Finished this area! Looking super sharp now!

Audi had the great idea to make the rear area under the car gloss black... Well road damage, and stuff flying up on it had taken its tole. Can't blame the car wash for this because it was clear it had never been washed. Amazingly this area had less wash damage than anywhere on the car...
5303F5A6-748D-48F5-81BF-898F79703C65_zpsedgkmdgi.jpg

so after laying on my back with head under the car for 45 min I was able to get these results! Some of the damage actually had to be sanded out.. I know why would I do this? No one will ever see it... Well anyone can put Opti Coat Pro on a car with just having insurance. How ever the prep work that goes into getting great results must be perfect! Including polishing stuff no one will ever see. That is what separates a real detail shop from a Car wash/detail hack and shine location.

Standing up I saw the already finished light and back area and decided it was picture worthy as all the black pieces looked like puddles of ink! Just to do those little wings, I used 3 different polisher, 5 pads, and even a lot of stuff I did by hand as it was unreachable. Prep work at it finest!

After 7 hours of engine bay, rear lights, and gloss black pieces on the back of the car. I went ahead and coated the Carbon fiber. While I was doing all the little stuff my team had been working on the rest of the car so no more working pics

All in about 23 man hours on this car!

Boom! It doesn't look lifeless anymore!

Sorry no sun shots as it was dark. But because we are a real detail shop and not a car wash.... Safe to assume we checked the car under multiple light sources and it was perfect in every which way.

The next day customer was so happy with the R8, he brought his friend and we did a proper hand wash and wax on it!

And that is how it is done! Proper prep work takes time, but if you put in the time you will get outstanding results!

Thanks for looking
