Ordered PC 7424 now what?

I am new to the PC game. I just ordered a new PC 7424 from Coastal. I plan to use the PC on different types of vehicles ranging from my old beat up 95 Bonneville to my 02 Trans Am. The T/A has always had Zaino since day one. I have been reading the site for a while now. I just canâ€â„¢t decide what products to buy for the PC. Every product mentioned here seems to be good. I am asking for at least a hint in the right direction. What would be a good starters kit for me? I need pads as well as polishes, SMR, compounds. I have local access to 3M products such as SMR, heavy, medium and fine cut compounds. Are the 3M products good, or are there better products out there for the money? I want to continue using Zaino on the T/A. If I use other products on the T/A will I still be able to use Zaino? If so would I just polish the car then apply Z1 then Z2? Thatâ€â„¢s about it for now. I could ask MANY more questions but I think this will get me headed in the right direction. Thanks for any help.

Well first of all I would suggest the 7.5 inch Lake county pads from top of the line for $18 for two. All other pads i've tried weren't very durable but these hold up well because of the recessed backing. Also make sure you have a velcro backing plate.

As far as 3M products I have not used them but I expect that they will work well.

You can still use zaino and the Trans Am but the directions say that you should wash with dawn before applying Zaino and after polishing.

Constant Pressure (LC) 6-inch Foam Pad Starter Kit:

A constant pressure foam pad, this is essentially a flat 6-inch pad which uses a patented technology layer of engineered, instant rebound foam between the pad and the backing plate to absorb off-axis movements while keeping the pressure of the pad on the surface constant. These European pads are made from engineered, thermally reticulated (exploded open cell) foams with a 99% open cell structure, specifically designed for compounding, polishing and finishing:

It allows even beginners to achieve professional-like results, the curved 6- inch pads outer edge makes transitioning seams and uneven panel breaks easier and the concave "dish" in the centre of the pad reduces product splatter, and gives the operator greater pad control. They are very easy to control, and forgiving of less-than-perfect technique

â€Â¢2-Polish / Waxing Pad (*White)

â€Â¢2-Finishing Pad (*Black)

â€Â¢1- Finish / Glaze (Red*)

â€Â¢1-5-inch Flexible Urethane Backing Plate

*The foam pad colour identifications and specifications are by Lake County Manufacturing (LC) www.lakecountrymfg.com other manufactures of foam pads use a different colour to identify the abrasiveness or cutting ability of their foam pads

Woldn't washing with Dawn remove the polish? I will look into the Lake country pads.

Yes, it will remove the oils and fillers left by the polish. This is needed in order for the Zaino to bond to the paint per the instructions on Zaino.

I guess that is my problem. If I use other products to get the swirls out and then wash the car with Dawn it wouldn't help the situation would it? Or would the other products actually remove the swirls and not just fill them in? Sorry I am really new to the different products that are out there other than Zaino and Meguires.

Other products such as DACP will remove some swirls.

One of the Zaino sealants fills swirls so you may want to look into that one because you will probably not remove ALL of the swirls with a PC and some DACP.
