Orange Peel Reduction Exercise with Anthony Orosco

Anthony,

Thanks for jumping in with your pictures as it helps to explain the processes we went through. The entire purpose of this thread was not to say "WOW, ain't my car pretty now!", but rather to share my understanding of the process with everyone else, and just perhaps help out others. It kinda like payback for all the great advice, suggestions and techniques I've learned on this board.

JDookie, Anthony is in San Antonio.

To everyone else, thank you for the kind words about my write-up -it might even encourage me to do others.:D

Well then, let me give this post a great rating :up

Uh oh, looks like that function is broken :nixweiss

I will be sure to do so when I can get it to function

Great writeup Gonzo. Your explanation was so good I think I could do it. But I'll pass for now. :-)

Very good thread guys.

Well, you're around 550 miles away from me which is a little farther than I think I want to drive for a wetsand otherwise I would be setting something up with you. Oh well, I was hoping you would say Houston or a little closer!

What do you think of the powergloss? Is it really as tough on paint as it claims?

PG is a fast cutting leveler that does the job well. I like it when used with an orange pad on both rotary and Cyclo. It does leave some swirls behind but followed up with some IP or Opt Polish and swirls should be no more.

Corey..... :)

MrAnthony, can you use it with a PC and not get the swirls? I just ordered from TOL as I am sick of having to work other compounds to death.

All Menzerna polishes have been designed from the gitgo to be used with a rotary to yield best results. That doesn't mean that FP and IP cannot be used with a PC however and if worked with sufficient speed and pressure and for long enough, they will produce excellent results. PG with a PC, I think, is beyond the capability of the PC to break it down and for this product _I_ would recommend only a rotary be used.

Holograms are no problem thanks to menzerna's range of polishes.

I had feared using a rotary years back when I read in product catalog's about how their compounds actually create more swirls albeit minor ones and being taught by a friend of my fathers who had a pro detailing business that you have to re wash the car every time you refinish the paint which I know now that you don't have to

I look back now thanks to all the things I have learnt from this place and think, he called himself a pro.

Gonzo gave a fairly accurate description of all the Menzerna line. The PG cuts fast and cuts well but it is an abrasive product. You can get fair results with it and a PC, better with a Cyclo but optimum results with a rotary as it was designed to be used with a rotary.

Always remember that swirls are the result of an unfinished polishing job. I have stated this over and over again....."The finer the pad and product the fewer the swirls" So if you use PG with a LC polishing pad you will have marring left behind. This then needs to be gone over with perhaps another CLEAN polishing pad and IP. This then may need to be followed up with a finishing pad and FPII.

If you use PG with a rotatry and an orange or wool pad you will have swirls left behind and these then need to be removed with IP and a polishing pad and then that needs to be followed with FPII and a finihsng pad. Bottom line though is that PG will not finish out nicely.....it will need anywhere from 1 to 3 polishing steps afterwards, depending on the paint color and degree of paint correction needed.
