Optimum Protectant Plus

I just tried Optimum Protectant Plus for the first time yesterday, and I must say that I am less than impressed.

Don't get me wrong, I am a HUGE fan of Optimum products, specifically the wax, polish, and compound, which really surprises me about the protectant.

First of all, I found it to have a striking resemblance to Armor All, in smell, look, performance, everything.

Second, after applying it to my tires......twice......, it left an uneven finish which wasn't what I would call shiny at all.

Third, it lightly rained today, and low and behold what do I see?? Runs all down the side of the bed of my truck because I treated the black plastic cap that runs all the way around the top of the bed.

Last but not least, after a very brief drive in the rain, the tires looked like they were never even treated.

Maybe this product would be decent for interiors, but for exteriors, I am extremely disappointed.

How do you guys feel about this product?

yeah, interior only...works quite well actually...leaves little to nothing behind...I dont like the shiny look other protectors leave...

never used it on exterior trim or tires for that matter...I have other stuff for those

They make a tire shine that's actually quite good, I like it but for doing a lot of cars I found a cheaper product I can buy in bulk. Interiors - I use Lexol products.

I agree with all others-use it only as an interior protectant.

If you want something from Optimum for tires, try their tire shine.

I have used Opt Protectant a few times...I found the same as JD on trim..it washed off..I used it on interiors also..looks great....now I have found a product that last on trim..no runs streaks..and lasts..I now use that on interiors also...if it lasts on the outside with the elements..I know I have a good product on the inside...

Is this product marketed directly toward interior trim specifically? If so, that explains why I had such poor results. I was under the impression that it was a general surface protectant.

I used it because I wanted the UV protectants that it supposedly has in it. I don't like when tires get that brown color after a couple years, so I figured I would start protecting them now, but also didn't want a shiny as snot finish either. Just something that made them look like brand new rubber, which this product does, but only after using a ton of it.

Anyway, I posted this thread to warn anyone thinking about using this product on exteriors like I did. Thank goodness this wasn't a customer's car. I would've been in trouble! LOL.
