Optimum Polish Seperating

So I went through my first 32 oz bottle of Optimum polish. I really love this stuff because it's effective and doesn't dust at all.

I ordered two more 32 oz bottles from autogeek. I tried to use one when they arrived, and the one bottle was horribly chunky. I gave it a good shaking, for a couple of minutes, and it was still so chunky that I needed to use both hands and squeeze as hard as I could to get it out of the nozzle. I checked my other bottle, and it was even worse. The top half was this almost clear liquid, sitting on a solid base on the bottom half.

The following is my email correspondance with autogeek:

"Hello,

I recently received two 32oz containers of Optimum Polish with an order I placed (Invoice No. xxxxxxx). Inside both bottles, the product has seperated. I tried shaking one for several minutes, and it was still so chunky that I could not squeeze it through the opening of the container. The other one is half liquid, half solid. I have used this product before and it is supposed to have a very uniform consistancy.

I would like to know how to go about exchanging these containers for two new 32oz containers of Optimum polish. I'd also recommend you check your stock to make sure this isn't a common issue.

Thank you for your time, and I look forward to hearing from you ASAP.

Jed"

Here is the response they gave me:

"Jed,

The optimum polish does separate specially now in now in the hot months. The product is still good just need to be shake up and down for about a minute. Also try to store it in a cool inviroment below 80 degrees, or just remember to shake the product up and down for a about a minute.

Thank you

My immediate reaction to this is that this isn't good enough. I said in my initial email that I tried shaking it for several minutes with no results.

Has anyone else had problems with the consistancy of Optimum polish, and do you have any suggestions on how to handle this issue, both with the polish and with Autogeek? I'm very disapointed. Thank you.

I had, altough it's a great product, I will go for Menzerna polish the next order.

Try making the squirt-hole bigger with a drill, or poor over in a larger container.

I mixed polish/compound on a 50/50 ratio and had no problems using it ...

I know some people have had this problem, but I recieved my order from Autogeek and my Optimum Compound and Polish are fine, even in hot/humid South Florida. The other guys I know that use them haven't had this happen as well, but I still see people mentioning the consistancy which is weird? I know one of my neighbors just recieved his new batch of OC and OP and it's just like mine, not chunky etc.

I have an Autogeek issue, although it has nothing to do with this thread.

I ordered some 4" pads, OHC, and OP last Wednesday, paid $31.00 for 2nd day UPS, and I have yet to receive my order. The original delivery date was to be today, 5/30, but the UPS site shows the delivery delayed to 5/31!! It was bad enough that it was to take 6 days to receive my order, but a week is unacceptable. I have yet to receive a response as to the refund of my additional shipping charges, as I obviously did not receive goods in 2 days!! If I do not hear back by 5:00 today, I am disputing charges with my credit card.

Yeah definately get your refund on the express shipping or talk to your CC company.

As for the Optimum Polish, I just ordered some more from eshine.ca, asking them not to ship if the consistancy was bad. This guy Chris from eshine called me by phone within an HOUR of me ordering to mention that every bottle he has is like that, and has been for over a year. He suggested opening the top, squeezing the bottle a bit width wise, then replacing the cap to add more air to the bottle to increase your shaking room. He said that you really have to shake it a ridiculous amount, but after awhile it seems to just suddenly become a paste again. He preshakes his bottles a bit before sending them out to get the process started I guess.

A big kudos to Chris at eshine.ca for getting back to me with this information right away and in a helpful and thorough manner. I highly recommend these guys to any Canadian customers for products that you can't find at autopia-carcare.com (which is still one of my favourites!)

I thought I was the only one experiencing this with my Optimum polish. I've tried everything you can think of to try and smoothen out the polish but it is still chunky. It's weird a few of you have experienced this. I wonder if there is going to be some research from the manufacturer into this? :nixweiss

I wonder if this is a new thing, or maybe now that the product has been on shelves for awhile now its separating worse. I still have 2 full bottles of Opt Compound and Polish and all of them separate, but all of them smooth right out after about 30 seconds of good shaking; they're all stored in an underground garage that never gets above 74f or so.

Maybe once Opt is stored above a certain temperature it becomes prohibitively hard to smooth out?

I have a paint can shaker, I wonder if that would do it to the really chunky bottles...

Oh, and Chris at eShine.ca rocks hard. :)

Customer service is EVERYTHING!! One thing I cannot tolerate is no return e-mail / phone call. It is bad service and just unacceptable. Sounds like eshine has it together. Next time I will take my orders to Ranney @ Pak Shak. I ordered from Autogeek because the OHC & OP was considerably cheaper and I needed it by this weekend, which still did not happen. I am disappointed because I have spent at least a few hundred dollars there in the last 18 months.

Reflections,

My bottle of OP has chunks in it as well. Seems to work fine though, and I will be transferring OP into a bottle with a bigger spout. Weird thing is, OHC and OC don't have this problem.

Weird about the whole OC OP consistancy thing, it actually worried me before I ordered the products. But no chunkyness here, and I actually found them easy to use on a PCDA compared to what others said. Even my buddies that use it haven't had problems with the liquid consistancy, and we're here in hot and humid South FL which from what I'm hearing about the weather should actually affect it more?

I ordered my bottle of Optimum Polish from SMP a few months ago. Upon recieving the bottle, it was VERY chunky, and wouldn't squeeze out of the bottle, even with both hands and a heavy amount of force. The very few times it did squeeze out, it just came out in globs. I shook it for 10 minutes straight, and tried pouring it inside an old Dawn dish soap bottle. It worked for a little bit, but things began to chunk up again. Im going to try and pour the polish into a container and mix it around a bit with a plastic spoon or something.

But yea, im very dissapointed with OP thus far.

I totally agree that customer service is everything. I will often purchase from an online vendor, even with higher prices, with a proven excellent customer service. I too have had hot/cold experience with Autogeek customer service. Their email response is EXTREMELY lacking and they seem to get to the orders "eventually". However, once the order is processed, my two orders arrived promptly and well packed. They are also fair about refunds where their website says a cost for combining products for a discount and it doesn't come out in the shopping cart. Overall, I try to avoid ordering from them and now I really don't need anything from them that I can't get from Pakshak or Excel. Perhaps they are a larger company, but their customer service could really use some work.

On a side note, I have OP and OC on order and should be here in a few days. Average temps here are upper 70's to mid 80's year round, so will be anxious to see what I get.

I thought the issue with the chunky OP was to be resolved and that they were coming out with an improved version. I think that MDRX8 is right and we should go straight to the source.

Why is this happening to only some bottles of OP? Sounds like a bad shipment from the factory or something. The first bottle I had was perfectly smooth, and I don't think the shipper (I forget who) spent 10 minutes shaking it for me.

This product is the best polish I've ever used because it is effective, finishes nicely, and doesn't dust. But honestly, it's not worth using if I can't even get it out of the bottle. I'll post what happens after I spend awhile shaking my bottles. If it's still unusable I'm going to return it and ask for Optimum's contact info.

Edit: Just saw the post with the contact info. Thanks -- I will contact them tomorrow and see what they say.

RX8 is right - contact Optimum directly and they will resolve the problem. Optimum's CEO, David, is a real class act and he even sent me a bottle of OCW to comp me for the return shipping.

David from Optimum now has his own manufacturing facility and is aware of the 'chunky' problem and is working with a different product blender that hopefully ends the problem.

Thats good, maybe I will give the Optimum another shot now. I was just totally dissapointed with it when I couldn't even squeeze it out of the bottle.

Whew - I thought it was just me.

I just got mine a couple of days ago and tried it for the first time this evening.

I have a very limited exposure to polishes and compounds and did not know if it was normal. My OP can hardly be squeezed from the bottle. I wonder if taking it to a paint store and having them shake it would do any good.
