Optimum-P085RD-Pink Wax

We decided to try a new combination on my neighbors TL -Optimum Car polish, Menzerna P085RD polish, and Finish Kare Pink Wax.

The car was polished a few weeks ago and topped with Souvern. Since we're nuts, we decided to try out the new products and strip off the expensive souvern wax (and I'm glad we did) There wasn't much to do in terms of paint correction. It had a few light scratches & marring -nothing major.

The process/products used were:

-Poorboys SS&S car wash
-BnB on the tires
-Optimum Car Polish
-Menzerna P085RD Polish
-Pink Wax

We applied the Optimum & Menzerna polish via rotary (Cyclo on the rear bumper area). 1200-1500 RPM for Optimum with a green LC light cut pad, and 1500RPM using a white LC polish pad for the menzerna.

The Optimum polish took out the light scratching/marring. As I've noted in the past, a few things that stand out when you use Optimum are: it's very easy to work with, doesn't sling, and doesn't dust. The pad dictates how aggressive the polish works (within limits -it's not a compound). A cutting pad will remove defects, and a polish/finish pad will leave you with a high gloss finish. It's pretty versatile polish IMO.

Next up was the Menzerna P085RD. At bit pricey at $45, but IMO it's worth every penny. This polish will take your finish to the next level. I apply 3 or 4 pea sized drops on a slightly damp pad (I use S&W to prime the pad), and away you go. 3-4 passes and it vanishes from your paint leaving you with a visually stunning finish. This polish has a permanent place on my shelf, and works especially well on black & metallic finishes. Pictures really don't bring out the reflections that you get in person.

We topped the car with Finish Kare Pink Wax. This wax works VERY well on black finishes. 1 coat looks nice, but 2 coats will have you saying 'WOW'. It reminds you of a polymer sealer (slick feeling finish), but I have no idea if this is the case. Any one know? Has anyone tested pink wax durability? So far I really like it. We'll keep it on for a month or so to keep an eye on durability. The downsides to this products are: 1) It has a strong solvent smell, similar to FMJ. 2) If you let it dry to long, you'll get a fair amount of dusting.

Very nice mgm! You used all of my favorite products on this one. The PO85RD is truly amazing, just too bad that costs so much. Maybe once the demand goes up and the body shops are able to repair ceramiclear paint the cost will go down. I can't say enough great thing about PO85RD, it really is amazing. And to everyone that is cusrious, yes it leaves a much better finish than FP II.

Yes the Pink Wax is a polymer carnauba wax. So you are correct in that assumption!

Great Job! ;)

Here is my experience withe PO85RD with a PC. Topped with FMJ

Just the Pink Wax, in late winter/early spring, beading was still fairly good at 6 weeks. (Then it got warm enough for a re-coat.)

03Cobra -wow, that sure turned out nice! Ditto on the P085RD -it's fantastic polish. Have you tried both of the ceramiclear polishes or just the P085RD? Have you tried topping FMJ with pink wax?

Big Leegr - Thanks for feedback on durability. I'm curious to see how it does with dust too. Souvern was attracting a lot of dust, I'm hoping the pink wax repels it better.

Looks amazing!

Great product lineup. Have you put Optimum up against IP? Where would you put it? Is it possible to leave a flawless finish with Optimum and the rotary?

Thanks Sean.

I've found that Optimum works best at around 1400 RPM.

You work the product in a lot slower than Menzerna. It's dust and splatter free. If you work it in too much you may need to use 50/50 isopropyl alcohol mix to ease the removal, otherwise it wipes off easy. I've also used OCW to remove my finishing polish step, and that works well too if your in a time crunch.

How does it compare to Menzerna (just my opinion here)....

Optimum removes defects as well as IP. IMO if you use it with a polish/finish pad, you'll get results in line with FPII. Can you get a flawless finish with Optimum? Now that's a loaded question! P085RD has produced the best finish that I've ever seen. Does that answer your question?

I think Optimum is a great value at $13-15 per quart. I sure wish menzerna was priced this way

I think I'd be very satisfied if I could only use Power Gloss, Optimum, and P085RD for polishing chores.

That's what I wanted to hear :). PO85 is my go to light polish and PG is my go to compound. I was looking for something to possibly replace IP as I notice light dusting and I don't expect that from a medium cut polish. I will be giving Optimum a shot. Thanks.

Those vehicles look great! I'm looking forward to trying the PO85... hope Dwayne can get some! :D

Boss_429 -Thanks for the kind words. I've learned a lot from your posts and think you do fantastic work.

I've seen P085RD and P0106FF on a few other sites as 'Coming Soon'. It looks like Jeff Silver (Menzerna rep) is finally responding. When I placed my order, it was held up for a week or so becuse it keeps selling out. I was told by the folks that I bought it from (not a sponsor site) that they are going to start ordering 90 gallon drums and supplying other distributors. It would be great to see some of the DC sponsors carry them, especially with a 10% discount (come on Dwayne...) It would also be nice if they renamed the product, and carried a 16oz size. At nearly $50 bucks a pop per quart I think a lot of folks will avoid it, that would otherwise shell out $20-25 to try a smaller size.

I haven't tried 6FF (yet), but I can say that a little P085RD goes a long way. A camera can't capture what you'll see in person. I could not believe the difference it made on an already well maintained finish. If you save it for your cars only, you'll have a supply for several years.
