Does this stuff actually work well like it says?

How dirty can the car be without harming the paint when using this?

thanks

Oh yeah, it's great stuff. Take it from a guy that is absolutely paranoid about wash induced marring. It works, and it works well. Yes, occasionally I'll get a bit of marring from it, but I'm sure it's more my ham-fisted technique more than anything. Try to find Scottwax's video on using ONR. It's well worth the time taken to find and watch.

I try not to use it on extremely dirty vehicles, but there's a lot of guys around here that *do* use it on very dirty vehicles with much success.

ONR is truly a wonderful product.

Edit: IntegrityDetail did a wonderful post all about ONR. Here it is... http://www.autopia.org/forum/car-detailing/113318-onr-definitive-thread.html

I love ONR.

It works well, and I would say that I've not induced any more marring with it than with traditional washes. Like anything, just use good technique and tools.

It saves a lot of time because you don't have to drag the hose out and put it away, etc. Plus you don't have to drag the hose around for rinsing, or have it on the ground to trip on.

One situation I used to have a lot before ONR was that my car would be just dirty enough that I'd like to wash it, but not dirty enough that I felt like dragging the hose out, etc. Not a problem with ONR. Just mix up a quick batch and wipe it down.

It saves on water since you only use what you mix up in the bucket.

I can wash in the sun if I have to or pull in my garage and wash there if I want to.

Since I'm washing one panel at a time, I can get interrupted (kids, wife, phone) and come back later.

It seems expensive at first glance, but you only use 1 oz of product to 2 gallons of water so it goes twice as far as traditional wash shampoos I've used, plus the water savings.

It's multi-use, you can mix it at different dilutions to use as a clay bar lube or quick detailer.

The only thing bad I can say about it is that I can't buy it locally. So, I try to buy it when Autogeek or another vendor is having a sale + free shipping event.

I generally don't use it on a REALLY dirty car either, but when I need to I can just stop by the local hand bay car wash, blow of the worst then ONR. I DO still keep some traditional shampoo on hand. Sometimes I just feel like doing a traditional wash :)

Give it a try!!

I have a black car that I use as a DD. I try to keep it show car-Swirl free. This past winter I gegan using the ONR as apposed to going to Swirl - o -Matic car wash. It took some getting used to but I pre-sprayed the car when it was full of salt and used the ONR threads as a guide. I did notice some minor marring but once I switched to a Long strand MF mit / sheep skin mit and away from a grout sponge it seemed to get a whole lot better for me. I use the grout sponges on the areas i do not want to contaninate the MF or Sheepskin as they are relativlty cheap and can be replaced without much pain. I like the Lowes grout sponge better than any others so far.

I polished my car with the mildest of polishes to remove the ultra light spider web marring.

ONR is great but for my taste, I will reserve it for those times water is not availible or it is too cold to use the hose. i still feel more comfortable with a wet wash.

I wasn't a believer of ONR until I bought a 32 oz bottle myself and tried it out. I use it on a light to moderately dirty car. If I have any serious dirt that doesn't get dislodged with pre-soak of QD mix ONR, I would use a hose.

My technique is to mist a panel with QD mixed ONR. I'll do about a quarter of a car at a time, letting it soak. Then I'll go over with a very wet grout sponge and wash.

So far I haven't noticed any marring.

:wow: - this stuff looks awesome!!

So would it be safe to assume that one could get 32 car washed out of a 32oz bottle for the average size car?

Depends on the user, and depends on how dirty the car is. If my car ('95 Camry) is just "dusty" and the wheels are pretty clean, I'll only mix 1oz(2gal) . If it's dirtier, and/or I have a lot of brake dust on the wheels, I'll mix 1-1/2oz(3gal).

I apparently must slop more ONR on than some guys though. I can't find it right now, but I was reading a thread awhile back where a professional car wash guy said he would wash like 4 or 5 cars with a single bucket of 2-3 gallons of ONR. I have no idea how that's even possible because if I wash my Camry with 2 gallons there is no way that there's enough left in the bucket to wash another car when I'm done. Obviously that guy doesn't apply it as liberally as I do.

Once you`ve used it and realised how good it is you`ll kick yourself for not buying a gallon right off. !

When using a no rinse wash I prefer to slop it on and then wipe it off with a damp MF. I'd rather waste some than not use enough.

Buy the Gallon :) For a really dirty car I spray the big stuff off with the hose. I like to get the wheel wells flush and make sure that no big particles are on the surface. I also like to spray the ONR solution on a panel with a spray bottle and let it sit to let it soften anything dried on the surface. I then use a wet mitt but not dripping to wipe clean. The one thing to remember is that with washing - you don't and shouldn't use much pressure.

The bonus is that you will find more uses as you go. I cleaned my wood floors in my kitchen last night with ONR. I have an acrylic coat on them and it worked fantastic.

Yeah it actually works. I was pretty reluctant to try it but was very impressed. My vehicle was fairly dirty and it worked very well.

If you wanna try it before spending a lot on more product, you can always get the 8oz. at AG of DI.

It's a great wash and clay lube product. I use it mostly when the vehicle isn't all that dirty. I always do small sections at a time using little pressure and ensuring my mitt is always soaked in the formula. It still takes me about as long compared to my 'foam gun in one hand, mitt in the other' method, probably due to the constant cleaning of my mitt.

I have been using ONR since the summer I have only used a hose 2x since that was bc the cares had caked on mud. I use it for teh entire car, outside paint, glass, wheels, interior, door jams, headliner, interior glass, engine...

One of the best items on my rack of "stuff"! It really saves time on washes and allows my shop to continue doing an Express Wash Service without taking much time from a detail. It is really inexpensive in the long run. I compared it once to using a normal car soap and I beleive it was about .08 cents more per car but saved about 15 minutes. Time=Money!!!!

For the dirty cars I do suggest rinsing it off with either a hose or power washer first.

Great stuff, but I don't use it as much as I did because I'm going 2-3 weeks without a car wash. When that happens I use reg car soap. Been slacking on my car detaililing. LOL

If my car is not too dirty, then I'll use ONR.

Can I use ONR in a spray bottle ( diluted of course) and wet my Lowes grout sponge before wiping and get good results?

probably. I do both actually. I mix up the ONR in a bucket with WARM water, then I have a rinse bucket with WARM water (both w- grit guards). I also add half a capful to my rinse bucket. I spritz the entire car with ONR QD.

As others have said, go ahead and get the gallon. I've only known about ONR for little over a year and I've gone through the 32 oz and gotten the gallon which am now less than 32oz from empty.

If you were just going to wet the sponge and do it like that I wouldn't use it to clean anything more than what you would use a qd for.

Why use it that way? Having a bucket doesn't take up that much more space. Besides, you will still need a rinse bucket.

I've been using this exclusively for a few years now. Last year during peak pollen season I broke out the hose ONE TIME to rinse the cars. My reaction was "what a waste of water!"

One suggestion, go to the home center of your choice and buy a pump sprayer in the garden center. I mix up the ONR and fill the sprayer and mist the panels before wiping them down. The cloths don't seem to drag as much with the mist of ONR.

I have converted about a dozen folks to using ONR. It doesn't make sense until you see how well it works.
