Optimum No Rinse Question

Just02, I have very little if any marring or scratching issues washing vehicles that are significantly dirtier than what's posted in your picture. After a short while working with ONR on different vehicles in different conditions, you'll learn the make better judgement calls on the limitations of this product, but I will say it's definitely good for more than just a dusty vehicle. I've used ONR with MF's, sheepskin mits, grout sponges & Shmitt's, all of which have worked well for me. I find I use a lot less water / ONR when using MF's than when using other wash tools with ONR or QEW. I don't know if it's just me, but I usually end up using way more water & ONR when using the Shmitt compared to other wash tools.

Sometimes I'm working in areas where there's fallout and ONR works to my advantage in these cases because I can wash a given panel, dry, clay, polish and protect that panel before moving to the next panel. With the traditional method of washing and drying the vehicle, the surface is left exposed for longer periods of time. If there's nothing in the air to contaminate the surface before polishing, then there's nothing to worry about. But sometimes there's abrasive particulate in the air (i.e. contruction sites, manufacturing plants, etc), and the surfaces get contaminated pretty quickly. Today for instance, there's a 2000+ acre fire nearby and the vehicles I'm working on are absolutely filthy from shoke & ashes. I can't even deliver a clean vehicle today because its already covered in ashes by the time I'm done.

One of the keys with any method of washing or drying for that matter is to use the minimal amount of pressure needed to clean or dry the surface. If I'm washing a surface that's pretty dirty, I'll simply make a couple more gentle passes rather than trying to wipe it down perfectly clean in a single pass.

And with new towels, *always* wash them before your first use to make sure they truly are clean. Just because they're new & unused doesn't always mean they're clean.

Thank you. That answers all of my questions about the product!! At least for now.

Thesacrifice and Sludge, have you ever had issues with it scratching or marring?

Looks like I'll be able to wash my car more often. :spot
heres an example what ONR can do used properly on a pre treated panel..I wouldn't use it often on such a dirty surface but as you can see in the after pic theres no marring..hope this helps

Living in an apartment complex, I use ONR exclusively to wash my car. It is fabulous. I'm actually a little disappointed because when I bought my new car I got a color that would be easy to take care (silver) of since I knew I wouldn't be able to wash it as often as I wanted. With ONR I'm able to wash my car every weekend, so I wish I would have gotten a more fun color!

Use: I use a microfiber towel to wash, and a plush microfiber towel to dry. I tried a microfiber mitt, but I found to be a pain since you have to stop and dry every section (and I'd take off my mitt each time).

Marring: I had the same concerns. When my car is really soiled, I take it to a coin-operated hand wash and use the high-pressure rinse cycle to knock the worst off. I recommend it.

Are you using a waffle weave towel to wash? When you do take it to a coin-op, do you just rinse it off and then wash using ONR? BTW, nice car! Is that a CX-7 or 9?

Joe.p, that looks great. When you wash, are you constantly going back to the bucket to rinse the towel or just occasionally?

I use the Eco Xtraplush towel that the ONR site suggests.

I use the rinse at the coin-op, then just drive my wet car home and follow the typical ONR directions.

It's a CX-7, I love it so far. :)

Here is what mine looked like before I used it two weeks ago for the first time. I sprayed the entire car with a bottle of ONR before I started, and used a Shmitt. But for some reason I didn't take any afters. I must say I wasn't really comfortable doing it, and wished I had taken it to a coin op first. I can't say if I did any marring since I know our winter already did a lot of that already.

I use the two bucket method..1 bucket for rinse water 2nd bucket with ONR..when washing i'll use a couple different sheepskins 1 for the lower panels 1 for the upper body..its important to check your technique to be sure your washing properly without leaving any marring behind ..i use a WW to blot dry followed up with a MF..

rinseless washes are a little intimidating at first but once you have a few washes under your belt you'll become comfortable with it maybe enough not to drag out a hose anymore..

others already have and will offer there techniques.good luck and have fun :heelclick

although i soaked/pretreated the panels i wouldn't attempt to use a rinseless wash on a dirty car such as mine again without going thru a laser wash or coin- op..my car was full of RD salt and i doubts i could do it without any regrets.. but i won't push the envelope anytime soon..
