Optimum No Rinse by Tuesday

Keep in mind I am a Meguiars freak.

This guy comes on the forum touting everything but Meguiars. I thought I would show him what I could do with Meguiars. I guess I was bored that night.

So far I have used ONR on 7 cars and my van. I am not digging it. I have experimented with towels mitts and chamois.

I can't get the wheels clean like I like, I can't do wheel wells. Bugs are harder to clean. Dirt and junk in cracks and crevices are almost impossible to clean. It smells bad. The stuff drips all over the place any way. If I ring out the mit then not enough goes on the car.

I might need somebody with more experience with this stuff to school me on it.

As far as these issues, this wash isn't made to replace a traditional wash by any means and I don't think anyone ever said it would.

Gunks in cracks and crevices? How did you clean them with a traditional wash? Use the same methodology here.

As far as your dripping all over the place comment. How is that any different from a traditional wash? My wash mitts drip from the time I remove them from the bucket to the time I rub them all over the car.

I'll give you a call tommorrow Joe, maybe I can help you out.

Well first of all Joe, I really admire your work, and frequently have my jaw hit the table when I look at your results on the Meguiar's board.:2thumbs:

I have been using QEW and ONR for over a year, due to water restrictions in my area.

In regards to cleaning wheels and wheel wells...I mix up 1 gallon of water, and 1 ounce of QEW or ONR in a pesticide sprayer. I use this to get the wheel wells and the wheel barrells wet. I can then use an assortment of brushes and sponges to wash the wheels and wheel wells, then I rinse the wheels and wells again with the mixture in the sprayer. If I have tough areas on wheels that don't come clean, I spot clean with some wheel cleaner, then rinse with the sprayer.

Regarding crevaces, using the pesticide sprayer also helps there. If the car has a decent amount of dirt on it, I pre spray the entire car with the mixture from the pesticide sprayer, then wash with my ONR or QEW mixture from the bucket. But yes - I do use a fairly wet mit, and it does drip a lot. One analogy I use is that I keep the mit as wet as I would a wash cloth that I would use to wash my face.

I use about 6 gallons of water to wash a car - 1 gallon in the sprayer, 2 in the wash bucket, 1.5 in the rinse bucket, and 1.5 in my dedicated wheel / tire bucket. Again, we are under water restriction here, so I can take 6 gallons of store bought water (with the receipt on hand) to wash a car, and typically have no problems.

One thing I will note is that QEW helps the mit release the dirt a little better than ONR. ONR on the other hand leaves a nicer finish. I tend to use QEW more, because I prefer to wash with a cleaner wash media (just my opinion).

Thank you for your post and the compliment.

Too bad for your water restrictions. So far we aren't under any.

I currently use 6 gallons or less to wash cars the old fashion way now. We get 15 to 18 washes from our 90 gallon water tank.

Nice to have though in case we come under restrictions.

Again thanks.

Once you get the hang of it, you may find you prefer using it. I know I do. I hate conventional washing now. ONR saves me a lot of time when washing too.

JOe, I highly recommend pre treating. Makes the task a lot less daunting, not to mention a heck of a lot easier. I have a link if your interested......(dont want to spam, so just ask)
