Optimum no Hype Hyper Compound

The new Optimum Hyper Compound (OHC) is out.

I have a bottle and let me tell you there is no Hype about it.

It is a great product.



My test panel is a hood off a wrecked 03 5 series BMW.



First test with the rotary. Speed set

at 1500 rpm.

A scratch and marring in the hood from

being thrown around in the junk pile.

I used a wool Optimum pad with the OHC.



This is how it finished out prior to polishing



This is the final finish after polishing

with a white LC variable contact polishing pad.



Second test with the rotary.

2000 grit wet sanding scratches

I preformed this in two different areas.

Right side with a LC yellow compounding pad.

The left side with the wool again. Both with the OHC.



This is how the two different sides finish out.

It looks the same in the photo however

the foam dose not have the hidden deeper swirls like the wool left behind.



Finished off with the LC white polishing pad



Third test with the rotary.

I scratched the hood with 000 steel wool.

Again OHC and wool pad.



Finished with the LC white polishing pad.

 
Forth and final test.

This was done using the Cyclo Polisher.

3000 grit sanding scratches were removed with the OHC and the yellow compound pads.



You can see some marring from the compound and the pads in this photo.



Next I went to the Optimum Polish and the orange Cyclo pads. Then finished off with the white pads and the polish again.



I cannot tell you all how much I love this product. I do a lot of finish work for a body shop and have been using several different compounds. None can compare to the OHC for it’s ease of use low splatter easy clean up and low amount of swirls.

I don’t own a PC and am curious as to how it will preform with this polisher

I guess OHC will be in my arsenal soon as well. But I too wonder how it would perform with a PC.

Ron, thanks for putting that together! I know you put a lot of effort into it. Looks like excellent results all the way around.



Nice to know it can correct pretty tough defects using a cyclo. :waxing:

When you say you polished it out with a white LC pad (second step), do you mean you used the Optimum Polish or you used the OHC again, this time with a polishing pad?



How long do you work it with the rotary before you wipe off? At what moment do you know when to stop and wipe off? What kind of pressure do you put on the buffer?
 
I used the Optimum polish for the second steep with all the rotary work.

The cyclo I used the polish withe the second and third steep.
 
The light is one I have had for ten years. It is a 500 watt halogen. Very comon



I have never used the diamond cut. so I can't answer your question.
 
I would not sugest using steel wool on your cars finish. I just used it to scratch the paint.



I would sugest useing a compound first. If that dosn't fix the problem I would then try wet sanding.

Your factory finish is not that thick so I would sugest you sand with care. Don't be very agressive.
 
nice review.. looks they answered our prayers cuz I could not find any difference in cutting power between Opt. compound and Opt . polish.. now i can go from hyper to polish .. Yipee !! kudos to the guys at Optimum and the testers !!
