Optimum ID cause hazing?

Not really, just seems to help it cure fully. Really noticable with Meguiars #26.

Waxes don't cure-the solvents flash off and they haze. Sealants cure because they need time to fully crosslink.

What about sythentic waxes that contain cross-linking polymers like NXT 2.0 and OCW, etc.

In regards to those two products you really should direct the questions to the manufacturers. They should be able to answer your questions. Many manufacturers make claims that just don't seem to play out under real world conditions though. The original OCW claimed 5 months durability-most find that claim unrealistic.

Seems like you have a bone to pick with any product that doesn't start with a Z.

If you applied OCW to a prepped surface and left it in a garage, covered, for 5 months I bet it would hold up.

They were intended to poke a whole in your flawed theory, I already know the answer...ZZZ man I'm tired, need to give it a rest...oops, I mean get some rest.:chuckle:

I'll never know, I try new stuff on my car at least once a month. For the price, ease of use, and customer service, I'll continue to use it.

So much depends on enviroment, wash medium, etc that it would be best if wax/sealant manufacturers didn't even mention a specific time-frame for durability. Way too many variables in play.

I have PoliSeal and it's average. That doesn't make it bad but don't pretend it's the leader of the pack. Products like OCW and AW are just for show. I'd never use them as a standalone. And hey, if those crosslinking polymers that Optimum and Megs are using are good then they should last quite a while. If a product doesn't hold up in the real world, I don't buy the hype.

Yeah, they just leave themselves open to criticism....but OTOH I bet the average layman wants to see some kind of claim on the label :nixweiss

Heh heh, even Souveran lasts for a long, long time under some condtions...the Jag was still OK after well over a *year* but that's in my garage where I have control over the conditions. Still, I was shocked that it was still slick and beading after all that time, I'd expected it to be pretty bad.

Noting that I don't know a thing about the chemistry involved in this stuff...Some waxes sure do *something* over the passage of time that renders them quite stable. If you let some #16 sit for a week before you buff it off it's quite different from how it is after only a few hours. Some other waxes (e.g., some of the Collinites) do something like that too...cleaning them off with solvents is a lot easier after a few hours than it is after a day or so. :nixweiss but *something* happens that makes them act differently than they do immediately after application.

BTW, I never have gotten back to BeaveRun (did my latest training in NJ)...we gotta get together next time I'm in your area.

This is precisely why OCW lasts about 2 weeks on my vehicles.

I am anxious to try the OID, however, I have a ton of Megs Consumer QD and UQD that I got on sale. I also want to get the OCWv2 but I still have a half gallon of v1. Ohhh the horror.

I'm not trying to be an a$$, and ageed that PS is not a be all, end all product, but the issue I was commenting on wasn't my opinion or your opinion of best products to use; I was commenting on your statement that waxes need no cure time, which isn't true of all of them. FYI- I live in the real world and with proper prep, I get very good service from these products, however I understand that some products are easier to learn how to use than others for optimum results. Maybe I've spent my time mastering Brand A and you've spent your time with Brand B. The difference is that I don't proclaim that mine is superior as many do here. I just state my experience with products I use w/o derogatory comments toward a competing product line. After all, this is a sponser supported forum and we shouldn't act like politicians pointing fingers. We should respect each other and the sponsers that support our forum by being courteous to each other and product lines.

Use what ever works for you. My time is too valuable to waste on products that only last a couple washes. Been there-done that-moved on.

What are you guys using the ID for anyways? I mean like when I guess? Just after a wash when your not going to use OCW or Optiseal?

I've noticed that trend too.

The trend is that I used to use a lot of products that looked great initially and then just faded. I was very skeptical of the Z claims. I've found that for my situation Z works very well. Collinite is a good product as well. 3m 3000 RC is a great product for removing wetsanding marks. Heck, I even have some TW metalpolish I use. I also have some Menzerna I hope to use once the weather breaks.

I like to use it after I blowdry, as I finish up drying with a MF. I do OCW monthly, 3x OS quarterly. PS bi-annually.
