Optimum Hyper compound vs M105

Hey guys, looking for a compound to level out 2k sandscratches quickly.


 


 


I've used 105 before, but i cannot deal witht the dusting. My buddy suggested Optimum, any input?


 


I've also been suggested m100?


 


 


I will be following up with HD adapt on foam pads, just looking to knock down the 2k scracthces a bit faster. 


 


This is being used with a makita rotary. Also a suggestion for a good wool pad would be nice :)

solekeeper- IME the OHC is considerably milder/less aggressive than the M105.  I haven't tried the OCP via rotary, but I suspect it'd frustrate me by taking forever.


 


If I were buying a compound today I'd look into the M100.

thomas, just curious have you used Adapt, and m105? What is the cutting comparison?

Not anymore, new version of OHC is significantly more aggressive than the previous version. Finish is excellent too. Side by side, using the same pad as Meguiars M100 (huge improvement in terms of finish and dusting over #105) the cut is very similar. Either would work just fine. 
 
Scottwax- Ah, thanks for schooling me!  Equivalent to M100 huh?  That sounds good.


 


Which of those two do you prefer?  If it matters, think "for hard clear" and I'll be finishing out with something like HD Polish so I'm not concerned about the compound leaving things ready-to-wax.

Honestly, I'd have a hard time choosing between the two. I would give M100 a slight edge on softer clears with MF pads, on foam its pretty equal. OHC had a longer work time. 
 
I used OHC when it first came out and as Accumulator mentioned, it was much less agressive than M105.


 


I've used M105 for ages and have loved it but like many other, I am getting sick of the dusting.

That i figure should cut down those sandscracthes really well?
 
I'm with most users on the dusting issues with M105. I am not sure if I have an early version of the product. Seems like it may get demoted to headlight restorations.


 


I am curious on how to deal with the dust that forms and what to do with the residue. I assume you can blow it off with compressed air or re-wash the vehicle (which seems like a time-wasting, but necessary step).  I tried wiping it off, but it seems like it gets into cracks and crevices, only to re-emerge on polished surfaces. Can this residue cause swirls/holograms in the LSP application step?
 
Lonnie- IME, yes, the dust, which contains some of the M105's abrasives, can cause micromarring if it gets rubbed into the paint.
 
solekeeper - I see you're still on the hunt for the ultimate way to remove your 2000 grit scratches! :)  Have you tried HD Cut yet? Works great via rotary. 
 
I recently tried the updated version of OPT's compound and polish and I still felt that they were lower on the cutting scale than #105/#205 respectively. So I'd stick to something with more bite to get rid of 2000 grit sanding marks, or just get the Meguiar's 3000 grit sanding pads.


 


That said, OHC and OHP do dust less than meg's, but I personally don't think #105 dusts that much to begin with...I was coming from Menz HyperGloss compound...THAT dusted like a mofo, and #205 doesn't dust at all.
