Opti-Seal ?

Opti Seal is an awesome product, very easy to use with pretty decent durability. I can do a whole vehicle in less than 10 minutes with OS.

I too am curious, lately it seems it's a tug of war between say Opti-seal, BFWD I'm kind of curious where each product shines (no pun intended) and where another product has advantages...

Currently I use 476s and though they say that it leaves you wanting in the looks department I mean...if you check my write ups...not that the picks are super quality but I'd say it's good...durability has yet to be determined being that i've only had the product for maybe 2 weeks. But application was super easy (wipe on with MF pad, sit for like 5-10 minutes, wipe off, wait 8-12 hours to cure).

BFWD and OOS are 2 completely different products. I have both of them and use them separately. I use OOS for light colors and BFWD for darks and solids.

Do a search, so many threads with info. I like it but BFWD looks better on most colors.

Well, this question could not have come at a better time for me as I did some serious comparison with these two products in the last week on my new Victory Red HHR SS.

I've been very happy with BFWD on some of my other cars (especially my wifes Silver Mazda). I also used it on my Red HHR after a complete polish job to remove swirls from the dealer lot.

In the end, the HHR looked good, but for several weeks I had been feeling that something was really missing. The paint lacked depth, and at direct viewing angles the appearance was lacking. I even went back over the car with 85rd, and followed again with BFWD. Very little improvement. So, for kicks, I decided to go with an old stand by: OS.

Well, I'll be damned if the OS not only gave the paint more depth, but it also...made the paint wetter looking that BFWD! :wow:

Now, I know that there will be (many) people who love BFWD who will dispute these findings and talk about how they had an opposite result etc. That's fine, and I surely expect it, but I can only tell you what my experience was with my bright red paint.

I was as surprised by the results as anyone could be, believe me.

And I must add, the difference was actually pretty big, and I have always been one to say that there really isn't that much difference in appearance between various sealants. My wife even noticed the difference!

I've always been a fan of OS, and it was SUPERB on my yellow Mazda. I didn't care for it too much on my Silver Lotus because it seemed to darken the paint.

But man, on yellow and red, it is simply fantastic!

The fact that it is as easy to use as anything on the market is just icing on the cake.

I'm well on my way to becoming an Opti-Seal zealot!!!

As for BFWD, it remains the very best sealant that I have ever used in terms of it's ability to repel dirt. I don't mean that it is good at not attracting dust (if anything, I've had the opposite experience in that regard as it does seem to attract dust). But when you wash the car, the dirt and bug dung etc wash away very easily. BFWD wins hands down in this regard.

Overall though, I am going to keep using OS on my red HHR.

I (still) love Opti-Seal!

Thanks. Turns out a guy is sending me a bit of this stuff to try, and if it's good i will buy some. One question tho....not having used anything like this B4, what is the typical proceedure....do you wax over it once cured or what? Anything i should be aware of such as things not to put over it?

It's hard to make a mistake with Opti-Seal. Two sprays to prime a foam applicator and you're ready to wipe it on to the paint. Use a clean, soft applicator. Avoid extreme temperatures. I used to top with a coat of wax but find it better (in terms of looks and dirt-shedding ability) just to do another coat of OS.

Having used both the foam pad and MF applicators with OS, I recommend the MF applicator. It seems to work better than the foam as it applies the product more evenly and thinly. I get much less streaking with the MF applicator than the foam.

Wouldn't you use opti seal over BFWD ? The BFWD being a wowo and OS being wowa. Or is that just way overkill ?

I don't think the OS will properly bond to another sealant. Pick one and top with a wax if you want a topper.

Agree on the foam applicators, they suck with UPGP or Optiseal, MF covered are much better and you use much less product.
