Opti-seal?

Recently purchased opti-seal and plan on using for the first time tomorrow. I noticed this morning that the bottom of the bottle has a milky white substance on it and there are small white flakes floating around in the bottle. Been stored in my garage for 1 month and lowest temperature has been about 35 degrees. Is this normal? Thanks.
 
someone had a similar post on the Optimum forum...can't remember the outcome. You could check over there and see.
 
The flakes are something crystallizing out. I've seen it before in Acrylic Glos, and it has no impact with that. The milky looking stuff is less obvious. It could be more solids that have collected on the bottom or an emulsion of a 2nd liquid phase. I know if you get OS wet, it can turn cloudy. (Done it during application to a just-washed car). My feeling is that it doesn't harm the product. You could try a test-spot. It's not like it's going to suddenly turn into paint stripper, though. If it were me, I'd just shake it up and go for it.
 
Thanks for the replies. Will give it a shot tomorrow. Temp has not fluctuated all that much. Stored in my garage and coldest garage temp since I bought opti-seal has been about 45 degrees.
 
I was the person who posted about the same exact problem as yours.



There were multiple theories as to why it happens. One is temperature. The other is moisture some how entering the bottle and some of the contents polymerized, hence the white particles.



My bottle was purchased from AG and their tech said it wouldn't affect performance.



I have a small licensce plate cover that I tried it on and it seemed to work like my non polymerized OS but I still haven't gotten around to trying it out on a full car. When I do get around to using it I'm going to strain it back into the bottle through a cheese cloth since I wouldn't want those particles to clog the sprayer

I used the opti-seal today on my '09 silver Tacoma. Did not detect any issues with the white flakes floating around the bottle. Very easy product to use. I thought it went on with less streaking than upgp which I used last month on my space gray 335i coupe. Could have something to do with the temp difference and my feeling more comfortable with wowa products. The opti-seal seemed to give the paint more pop. Expected the opti-seal to have a petroleum smell to it like upgp but, I noticed no smell. Gut tells me the upgp will last longer. Happy with both products.

This is Dr Gs final answer on this problem:



"As for using the Opti-Seal bottles with crystals, it will not have the level of resin/polymers that are in a clear bottle and therefore it will not provide the full benefits. Straining it will also introduce more moisture and will cause further crystallization. Let me know if I can be of further assistance. Thank you."

That would lead one to conclude that the polymers have somehow solidified in the bottle.
 
Yea, the polymers are the white crystals/ milky substance.



So since there are less polymers, I'm assuming the OS will still go on and off just as its supposed to but won't protect as much/ or as long. I'm just assuming though. The look OS gives could be compromised too I guess



I tried it on a tiny test panel and it went on and flashed off just like my normal bottle of os.

If there are just a few flakes floating around I wouldn't worry to much but if you have a large amount that have fallen to the bottom of the bottle I'd contact Optimum.
 
My situation has already been taken care of, I was just posting this for 737 since I saw he was still using his.



AG more than made up for it. I dont know if any other vendors got the crystialized ones but if he got it from AG he should contact them

Thanks for the replies. AG sent me a new bottle last week. Used the bottle with the flakes on my truck. Will slap on a new coat with the fresh stuff soon. Really enjoying opti-seal and upgp. Allows me to spend more time on the golf course and on the lake.

From what Ive read it seems that AGs bottles already had it and was shipped out like that. But, at the same time I believe it can polymerize if exposed to moisture or extreme temps
