Opti Seal Application

Since OptiSeal is clear and evaporates quickly, how can you tell if you are applying it evenly and completely? Does it leave a briefly visible film? Also, can you use a new foam applicator out of the package or should it be washed and dried first?

Thanks.

I found that on darker colors you can see a film as it evaporates. On silver it was pure guessing. I used an applicator straight out of the package.

I always apply it to the applicator...it only take a LITTLE bit to do a lot. So I feel like I can control it better on the applicator.

Do yourself a favor and use a small microfiber towel for applications purposes. The foam pad was an original idea which has since been improved upon. OS will leave a oily film while clearing itself out. Once cleared its non detectable. It may not even feel like youve added protection until the following day.

And, I fail to understand why you would want to use anything atop or below it. If your going to the effort of layering something atop or below, why not put another layer of OS on?

I used a foam applicator for OS. I would spray the applicator first and then the paint. When the foam app becomes grabby I spray it again. Usually I would spray the pad at least 3 times when I do my car.

I prefer the MF applicator pads from Wal-Mart for WOWA products.

I find that the Meguiars foam hand applicators are ideal for Opti-Seal application. I only apply OS to the pad-and make sure you not only initially spritz the middle of the pad, but out by the edges, otherwise the pad might be grabby the first panel or two.

Helpful hint: If it takes longer than 30 second for Opti-Seal to dry and clear out, you are using too much. Even in 40 degree weather, OS was drying faster than 30 seconds for me.

Hey Scott. You were right about OptiSeal on my silver FX35. I just reapplied this weekend, since it's been about 2.5 months since your detail. I thought it was extremely easy to apply using your technique of spritzing the foam applicator. Using a brand new bottle, it looked like I hadn't used any of the product after completing the whole car. This is by far the best car product I have ever used! I also found that it removed some roughness from the paint surface during application. I continued to work on one section at a time until the foam literally glided over the surface. This took only 2-3 passes with very light pressure. Then I moved to the next section. I highly recommend this product!
