Opti-Coat prep questions

I'm about to embark on the Opti-Coat journey and just want to be clear on my steps.

I'm planning on washing first, of course. Power clean 3:1 before drying. Then clay where needed.

Optimum Hyper Compound and Polish to get as close to swirl/scratch free as I can.

My question is, do I need a final clean after the polishing steps? Or can I go right from buffing off the Optimum Polish to applying the Opti-Coat.

My main reason for avoiding the extra washing/drying step if I can is to avoid introducing marring before coating.

Thanks!

i would say the IPA wipedown to remove polishing oils and residue should be done prior to the opti -coat. but i havent ever used the O.Coat so i would see what else is said

That's kinda what I was thinking... I'll probably end up doing a final wipe down with the Optimum power clean before applying the OC.

Good idea anyway because it will pick up whatever dust has collected on the car too. I'll have to find one of my best mf towels for that step though.

As long as your towel of choice is clean and free from debris you shouldn't introduce any marring.

What we do at our shop after all the polishing and just before an IPA prep is use compressed air and blow the car down panel by panel as we wipe it down.

We even use the compressed air to blow of panels as we go along applying the Opti-Coat. Keeping air close by is good practice also to aid in drying the product if needed.

I believe Dr. G has said that if using optimum compound and polish all that is needed is a wipe down with a damp MF towel before applying opti coat. I'd call or email Chris at optimum to make sure.

Opti-Coat will clean the surface to a degree itself BUT to always err on the side of caution I always recommend people do an IPA wipe down. I never apply it to an un-prepped surface.
