Opti-Coat on black chrome rims?

I just ordered a new 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee srt8! I have always used menzerna polishes with my flex and either zaino or another polymer bases lsp on my current vehicle a few times a year, including the wheels, and never had any issues with durability and maintained a great shine. On the new jeep, i ordered "black vapor chrome" wheels, and am going to be running them in the salt and winter as this is a daily driver. Would you recommend the opti coat to keep these wheels looking like new? I am also going to be putting a clear bra on it, so I have been contemplating doing the whole vehicle in OC,including the clear bra. I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on both the wheels and the whole vehicle!
 
I don't see the need to use OC on a clear bra tbh, though others may chime in. Your wheels will be fine with OC and if they were mine, I would actually coat them twice, but no matter how you do it, OC will be the most durable finish you can use.
 
Depends on the type of clear bra whether OCing it would be beneficial or not... do you know what brand of film you're having put on?

Well, considering the 3M film isn't self healing, there shouldn't be any negative effects from applying OC to it. And I would definitely OC the wheels, including the barrels.



In either case you should seriously consider having a second set of wheels/tires for the winter to save the plating on your custom set.
 
I would save some cash, not get the bra and layer two coats of OC on the wheels and front end.

will do! Thank you - I am going to be doing the clear bra regardless... I live in an area that the front end gets destroyed on vehicles, especially with a full painted one like this. There is a quarry 2 exits away from me, and all the trucks pull onto the interstate and i swear lose half their loads. So its like rock city... on my current jeep I have been thru 4 windshields in the last 3 years. Last time I did the clear bra was 2007 and did the 3m because at the time that seemed to be the best one. Is there others that are better on the market today?

If the rocks are that big a clear bra may not help everything either.

I'm sure not expert on the subject (only had PPF on one vehicle, and it was 3M), but the newer PPF products are really something. The self-healing stuff is nothing short of amazing in that regard. But whether it'd provide the kind of impact protection that you need in your situation, well...I dunno.
 
The 3m I have on my charger does protect against the QP that flies all over the highway.... I know it's not fool proof but I am definitely going to look into the others
 
dont mean to thread jack.. im preping my rims for first coat of OC.. how long should I wait till second coat? 24 hours? and is it noticeably more protective?
 
Did a search and found it in a different forum: Chris@Optimum said you can layer it after an hour.. after cure time of 24 hours.. but it also doesn't add any benefits, such as more protection or gloss
