Opti-Coat Gloss Coat experience

I did another coat and ended up using 5 ml. I followed the instructions and that is what I ended up using so maybe the instructions should be revised. I'll keep any eye on and report back with durability when using the recommended amount. If I get a year of good protection out of it I'll be satisfied, if I get two years like the product advertises I'll be a customer for life.

As for topping with a wax, the analogy isn't really all that good because a t-shirt will never stop a bullet whereas FK or collinite will stop rain etching and bird bombs. Besides, just like pretty much everyone likes wearing a t-shirt over a bullet proof vest, I enjoy applying wax over my paint.

I did another coat and ended up using 5 ml - you can not layer Gloss Coat. Will not stick.

As for topping with a wax, the analogy isn't really all that good - Not unless you understand the differences between a wax/sealant vs Gloss Coat. If you feel that FK stops bird etching: 1 - the formula was changed since I used it, 2 - why put a coating underneath it?

I enjoy applying wax over my paint - That is beautiful, but again you will not get the benefit of Gloss Coat by topping it. However if you keep putting FK1 over it, Optimum will have a customer for life 100% because it may end up on the paint for many extra years beyond 2 that you are hoping for!

Once, many years ago I corrected my van and put on CG's XXX wax. Did it every week, for a whole year except for 4 weekends where I was on vacation or something else came up. So 48 weeks. I stopped and just washed the car for the next 5 or so months and when I repolished it, there was hardly any dirt/contamination on the car. See, you can get almost 18 months of durability out of a so so wax if you try hard enough. So your combo will definitely gets you over 2 years. :)

But to see how durable GC is, it needs to take all the abuse, not hide under a wax. Just my opinion. I could be wrong though.

Don't know what kind of birds you have in your area, but Collinite never stopped bird bomb etching for me.

Complete waste, you will not get the benefit of Gloss Coat having a wax on top. You should have applied a thicker layer. It's like saying that you will put on a t shirt on top of a bullet proof vest to prevent getting injured. :o

Not to mention wax won't bond to Gloss-Coat so it'll be gone in a week.

I've had Gloss-Coat on my Accord that sits outside 24/7 and it still looks amazing.

About 9cc of Gloss Coat on this car.

Thomas, this is the same car I have but in black, it does look fantastic! I have not used gloss coat yet, but so far for ease of application and removal like 22ple vx1. I have some vx3 I am going to use on my father's Buick lacrosse, so I'll be interested to see how that looks.

I have to agree to an extent, the UK that's on my car now just spots sp badly that it needs domething, and while the dirt shedding us excellt, less than a year and without reload, it beads no water, it looks like there is nothing there. However, the collinite fleet wax just doesn't let the water in to spot the clear, of course there is a trade off because to be fair, there's little to no marring from the CQUK.

Why is there a warning not to use gloss coat on glass? I thought the opt coat 2.0 was put everywhere including side and back glass

Concerns over streaks and\or high spots upsetting your visibility mostly. 2.0 had the same warning. I don't personally consider that to be a big concern since any application mistakes can easily be fixed with even the mildest of polish. Also, GC is noticeably slicker than 2.0 which makes it much better for windshields.

If I recall correctly the reason Gloss coat cannot be used on glass (specifically windshields) is that is will become damaged by the windshield wipers.
