Opti-clay?

Has anyone ever tried this stuff? It's pretty cheap for a 4oz. bar. Also, is it okay to clay using the soapy solution while washing? Thanks...

Yes, it's excellent clay IMO. It's very similiar to PB's clay, if you used that before.

I use a fresh bucket of soapy car wash & mash mitt for lube.

I've never used the Mothers clay, so I can't comment.

The only off the shelf clay that I've tried is the Meguires clay (white). It was very soft and gummed up on my finish. It wasn't for me, but I don't want to bash it because I'm sure others like it.

If the Mothers clay works well for you, then I'd probably stick with it vs. ordering on-line and paying shipping.

I'm ordering other stuff online too, plus it's $7 less than the mother's and the bar is bigger. I've heard bad stuff about the Meg's gumming up before, too.

I dont like my clay magic blue clay. But im stuck with it since i bought 200 grams of it. It just isnt elastic enough and alotoftimes i feel it is way too mild.

I found the clay magic blue to be very hard aswell. I guess it did it's job (no complaints from me) and the mother's seem to get real gummy if it gets saturated with QD or water. That's all that i've personally used, but am looking to try some different clay from the vendors online.

Opti clay is great
Only thing I dislike is how stretchy it is - very hard to knead
Is like melted cheese - stretches long ways before it breaks.

Clay magic blue was the one I started with and is very good although as it gets older it gets harder
Some leave it in water to stop this but this makes it mushy

For now my favourites are sonus ultra fine, opti clay and I'll be trying four star clay sometime soon.

I noticed there's different grades of clay mild etc. i picked up a clay bar yesterday and it's an agressive clay. how do you know what grade to use?

I love my opti-clay. I've since used it to remove a lot of black overspray, so the bar is pretty much ruined after 3 weeks.

They say that the agressive clay is more for pros because it really 'digs' into the paint and could possible make defects that are almost, if not, impossible to remove. The mild clay basically glides over the paint and removes whatever is in it's way. If your car has never been clayed before and is in really rough shape, then you may need the agressive clay but be real careful. Use enough lube so it doesn't dig in and keep kneading it often. If you are just doing some routine claying, that is what the mild clay is for. Hope this helped.

i'll go with a mild clay. the car is 10 yrs old but i've maintained the paint with conditioner's and wax, and an ocassional buff done by someone other then myself. This will be the first time i've used clay. maybe i should try my wife car first, you think?

stay away from aggresive clay . i used some once and it really marred the finish .. after i had a meltdown i got out the rotary and got real busy .. im thinking of leaving clay out of my lineup .. even the mild clay can scratch .. i really like the cleaning ability but the result is sometimes not perfect

i just recieved my sonus ultra fine clay and it feels very soft . i hope this works better or im gonna leave the clay out of my lineup unless the customer wants to pay for a compound step to clean up any scratching left by the clay
