This may or not be an appropriate response in this thread ....

... but here it is anyway

I use LC pads almost exclusively on my PC, Makita and Metabo. :xyxthumbs

Both my rotaries have backing plates with a depression in the center so a centering tool can be used to center the pad. This really helps to reduce or eliminate any vibrations caused by a off-center pad.

My PC backing plate has no centering depression so it is a crap-shoot whether the pad gets centered or not. The depression built into the pad back helps a lot, but you can still see off-centeredness when the pad rotates.

Since there is a ready made market here in the Autopian world, has LC ever considered making backing plates (PC/rotary) for their pads - might even do a better job than the generics every else seems to be selling.

My go to pad is your 7.5" VC White Polishing Pad. I have tried others and this one always prevails.

I would like to see a 7.5" MF bonnet that I can throw on at minimum speed to buff of an LSP.

PS - Still waiting for it to get over 20* to do more testing for ya.

I didn't know that (shame on me)! Whenever I bought backing plates, the vendors I dealt with just advertised size or ridgid/flexible. If a PC BP, it came without centering hole; with a rotary, it always had one.

PM me if you cannot say on the board who carries LC's backing plates for PC with centering hole.

Sean,

Is the 7.5 inch White Pad any different than the 8.5 inch, other than size? Just trying to find out where to order...some places carry 7.5 inch costing more than the 8.5 inch...so confusing!!!

What are the cutting/polishing abilities of the white LC 7.5 inch pad? Does it work well with IP, #80, FP...those kind of products, or something lighter? And the yellow pad...more of a cutting pad, I assume that is for use to up IP ability and for PowerGloss, right?

Thanks

*edit* I was browsing Autogeek and found the 7.5 inch white polishing pad....only $10.95. It recommends a 5 or 6 backing plate...I have a 5 inch plate for my PC, is that too small or should I get a 6 inch?

The five inch will work with a little room on the sides of the pad. In my own opinion, the white D.A. polishing pad with menzerna intensive polish on a rotary is a finish that is very difficult to beat. Although its a smaller pad, the foam with IP is awsome. The yellow is for cutting, with powergloss and the black is for final finishing with FP. Keep in mind that these products turn out the best results on a rotary and not on a DA. Thanks.

Yes, I know they're for the rotary...I'm planning on purchasing a Chicago Rotary from Harbor Freight (to try out) (Is that a good idea?) I was just trying to figure out which pads and backing plates to purchase, and my main concern is backing plate size with the rotary and 7.5 inch pad. Maybe I can $ave $17 by not getting a 6 inch plate and just using the Sonus 5 inch plate off my PC, however I think that the Sonus 5 inch DA Plate is made for the PC, no 5/8" thread.

Thats correct. The threads are different. My suggestion would be to go to harbor freight and buy a buffer to get used to. Why spend a ton if you dont like it or decide to stick to a DA. I would suggest going with the bigger size rotary plates. like a 6 1/4 inch so you can use it on more than just 1 pad.

One added feature that I would really like to see is a ziplock-type bag for each pad (similar to Sonus pads). That would be extremely convinient ;)

I'd like to see circles on the backside of the pads in the diameters of the various common backing plates.

Then, all I'd have to do is match the circle on the pad on the backing plate, and the pad would be centered with no off-center wiggling back and forth.

Carl: I like the 7.5" compared to the 8.5" because I get better control with them. Agreed with Eric that Menzerna on the rotary with the LC Concaved pads is just a win-win situation.

Eric: Any plans for that bonnet :D ?
