Ok, so today I decided to refine some techniques, but also test out some products. So here we go.
I decided to see if Collinite 476s will bead after dealing with DD conditions. My brother drives his car around brooklyn and flushing (so consider it urban city/highway beatdown?)
Washes I'll be doing more or less when he comes home with ONR maybe once a week for as long as the weather is decent (figure most average joes wont bother once it gets cold.)
At First Glance
Everyone meet car: I usually did a wash/clay NXT double coat (paste and liquid) treatment--but since I got the Flex, I figured "why not" I haven't touched this car in ummm..2 months?
I've tried claying this and also tested to see if NXT could cover some of this...to no avail...
WHAT I DID
ONR WASH
CLAYBAR WITH FRESH ONR/WATER SOLUTION
Dab Dry.
Started to rain (great huh?) so had to pull it into my really dimlit gargage ( I do hope to invest in working lights--I hear some are unhealthy for you?) it really made my job difficult to say the least...
After claybar, Upclose shot of rear driver's side bumper
And w.e. you call this piece..rear quarter panel by wheel well?
WHAT I DID
Flex 3401 speed 4-5 with Black LC CCS pad with M205
My reason was this--Mazda seemed to have really soft Clear and the swirls didn't seem too bad...
For those deeper scratches I used Orange LC CCS pads with M105, then IPA before hitting it with M205
So I THOUGHT I got it out but again--terrible lighting in my garage so...first pass
Second Pass
When I was done it got like this:
WHAT I DID
IPA Wipedown
Weather subsided so pulled car out again
Once I did a quick once around, I used Microfiber Pads to apply the product--pretty much as long as i saw a think streak of product--I just kept spreading it--when after a few wipes, i didn't see the streaking, I put more product on pad..usually just a few light rubs into the tin (I'm thinking maybe I should get like a small putty knife or something...) once I got it all on..I started from where I started and buffed off in same order..
Thunder started rumbling again so I pulled her into the garage to cure--tomorrow I was going to put a NXT coat on top--but thinking about maybe for the sake of this experiment putting on another layer of 476s only because I had to rush the application because of the weather and I had to run into the house because of some personal family stuff but didn't want to leave the car unfinished
NOW, my thoughts.
PRODUCT REVIEW
ONR: I really like the smell of it-- and when I put it in the water, I didn't really get the hooplah (the first night I used it I was so tired that I didn't give it much thought) but it all made sense when I used it as clay lube....I'll leave it at that. I DID notice however that if i let it dry, it left water spots which weren't a big deal because I just did a quick wipe with ONR again and dried--but I thought this wasn't supposed to leave any?
BLACK LC CCS: I'm not quite sure that this was the right pad choice--but there were some RIDS left over but being forced to contort to fit in the garage and bad lighting didn't help either. Also time constraints--but I was able to get most of the stuff out. I put down I'd say 10lbs of pressure while I worked and before I wiped I did a section pass or two with minimal pressure. It was interesting that the 205 seemed to react differently when I used the different pad...
Collinite 476 Application AFAICT, was a singe--but some did mention that it hazed the next day--being that I rushed the application, I'l inspect it in the morning. It kind of smells like...gas or turpentine or something...but I mean...I'll see how it goes... btw I also put it on the front windshield and the passenger side windows i think just to see if there's a huge difference.. more on that tomorrow.
Any thoughts, Tips, Pointers ETC would be much appreciated (please keep in constructive)
Any questions I'll be happy to answer--though if you want expertise advise--I'd prolly ask one of the sages
Special Thanks to Accumulator--as always sir, you took the time to help out a complete noob.
