ONR'ing with Lowe's Proline Grout Sponge?

I just use the two bucket method and a girt guard in each. I rub the sponge agains the grit guard in the rinse bucket to help get release some of the dirt from the last pass/panel. When it is warmer I will probably use a hose and rinse the sponge often during the wash.

I just rinse it in the rinse bucket (I use a two bucket system) and it comes out as new.

I've washed dirtier than that using ONR + GS. It's absolutely indispensable in the winter. I've also found ONR makes my wax bead longer, and adds a little shine.



Those look like real snow tires, way to go! :2thumbs: I really like the 330.
 
Could someone tell me why these sponges are not kept in one place? I mean if I need a nail I know where to go, if I need insulation I know where to go, I even know where to go to get grout in the store.

BUT, if you need a grout sponge, not so easy buddy, you need to check every aisle and every seedy corner of the store looking for a pile of them sitting on a wooden crate or card board box in no mans land or some unrelated shelf :D I have to put my walking shoes on and go back to my local Lowes:(

check the aisle where the mops, and househould cleaning supplies are. they will be in a cardboard display box...

My local Lowes carries both the yellow "Proline" and the tan GS that HD sells. (In the cleaning supplies aisle) Used ONR and GS for first time yesterday (it actually hit 40 deg south of Boston). Both sponges work equally well IMO. I was really impressed with how my 06 Tundra came out. It lookes like it it had just been waxed ! The chrome sparkled !

Thanks for the props. :D Yes, real snow tires (Dunlop M3), though it doesn't snow much here in the DC area. My summer tires are terrible in anything but warm weather, so I figured as long as I'm swapping tires, I should use decent winter tires. I've had them for two winters now and they've been great.



I agree with you that ONR seems to add some shine compared to my usual Z7 wash. I used it again last weekend, and I just can't get over how well it works. I can't believe it took me so long to get the courage to try it.

Good thing I'm not the only one that has similar results. I too find that ONR leaves a more shiny finish than Z-7, but Z-7 is a hella lot better with the GS. Suds up 3x more than a MF wash mit.



The thing with ONR is that it's very versatile. I tried ONR on QD strength to clean some bugs off my clear bra, and was very impressed that ONR QD was able to clean off the bugs easy with a MF. I think I'll make ONR QD my standard QD, and conserve Z-6 on those special days.... just like Z-8 HAHA!
 
I was at walmart today and saw one of these, they cost about $1.93 and looks alot like the GS.

has anybody tried this version of the gs?

just used ONR and grout sponge (HD). very impressed with how well it worked and came out. i ran into a couple of concerns while washing though... are you drying right after you wash...how do you avoid accidentally rubbing dirt from either side of where you didn't wash right onto the paint and towel? Are you emptying the rinse bucket after half the car? I noticed the water was so dirty that it appeared to be contaminating the sponge. I also noticed the sponge getting dirtier and even after heavily rinsing and cleaning against the grit guard and with a hose, it still was dirty.

Since it's cool here in FL. I've been using ONR in my garage, and dry after I wash. I think it's faster this way washing the car first prior to drying. For the dirty areas, I pre soak areas at QD strength to add more lub on the body panels. So far it works, and it cleans very well. If my car is just dusty (damn pollen) I don't need to pre soak the car.



As for the dirty GS, I usually wring it out before moving on the next panel. For me.. it comes out clean every time. I don't really rub the GS against the grit guard either.

Great info, going to go pick up a few tonight! I can get 10 of these for the price of one wool mitt.
 
I had success with the GS and ONR. I haven't used a sponge in so long, so it felt weird at first, but I got used to it and really liked it. It can hold so much water! What other products are people using the GS with, besides ONR?

I also use it for regular washes. Yeah, it can feel a bit weird at first, certainly it does not have the same feel as a wool mitt, but it works great.

I have not, but the pores on that one do not seem as big as the ones on the Lowes GS.
