ONR+Zaino????

Hi, I was reading autopia.org for quite a bit, finally I decided to order some Zaino (still new to detailing). My question is if I can use Zaino with ONR, and still be able layer Z-2/Z-5 afer washing with ONR (i will Z-6 the car after ONR).
 
Thanks guys, I recived my zaino kit yesterday, and scheduled delivery of ONR is on monday so I'll givr it a try. If I can I have one more question. I'm thinking of geting PC/Flex (any recomendations??) and trying to figure out what to use as a first time user. I'm loking for something that have some correction abilites but will be forgeving for newbie. My options are:



1. Zaino option:

*Z-PC with LC Orange 5.5 CCS Smart Pad

*Z-AIO with LC Gray 5.5 CCS Smart Pad



2. Menzerna: (I heard is not easy to work with for first time user)

*SIP with LC Orange 5.5

*106FF with LC White 5.5

*106FA with LC Grey 5.5

*IPA wipedown before Zaino (or do I need to do IPA after each step of menzerna?)



3. Optimum option and I heard a lot of good things about products from them, but don;t have an idea which ones to use so i will need some help to decide if I decide to go with optimum.





I would realy appreciate your help guys about choosing polischer, pads and products that will give the best results in untrained hands like my. If you have any sugestions that are difrent from "my options" i will be more than happy to read them. Tkans again.
 
If you use SIP you need to get the surface clean from the oils. prepsolve will work best. Follow it with ZPC and then ZAIO or whichever Z sealant you have.

Or do I need Prep Solve after each Menzerna step????

Option 2 is cheaper but for first time user is it easier too???? I would like to get the best possible results but I don't want to cause more damage to the paint ( or polishing with PC isn't as hard as I think?)

for my first machine buffer experience i went w/ a flex and SIP w/ orange pad and 106FF w/ white. it wasn't difficult at all so don't worry, just be patient and allow yourself plenty of time to finish the project and.



remember to run a test on a 12 x 12 section w/ various pad combination first b4 doing the entire car. this way you'll know the least aggressive combination to use to achieve the result you want. start w/ 106FF w/ white - if needed bump to 106FF w/ orange, then SIP w/ white then SIP w/ orange. if you are lucky and get the desired results w/ 106FF w/ white pad you might need only one polish stage and will save yourself a lot of time.



here are some tips i followed for polishing:



  • squirt three pea size dabs around the outer edge of pad for a 12x12 section
  • SIP seems to take longer to break down then 106FF, also found SIP a little more difficult to work with.
  • blot polish from pad onto surface b4 turning on buffer to avoid splattering
  • start Flex at level 1 or 2 and move quickly to spread polish evenly
  • then up it to 5 or 6 moving 1 inch per second over lapping 50%
  • just b4 poilish breaks down drop to 2 and do one last pass to minimize hazing
  • 3 – 5 mins until broken down
  • as polish thins out lighten up the pressure and increase movement
  • stop once the polish breaks down (begins to dust, become translucent / almost disappears)
  • remove w/ microfiber towel
  • if using SIP the finish will not be perfect – it is normal as the SIP creates / leaves the smaller imperfections that you're next stage polish will clean up

i'm not knowledgeable in the zaino polish / cleanser (Z-AOI, etc) line but my guess is:



  • wash
  • clay
  • wash
  • tape
  • SIP w/ orange
  • 106FF 1/ white
  • ISA wipe down
  • FPII w/ black (only if you really want to bring that last bit of shine out)
  • can re-wash here but i prefer an ISA wipe down
  • z-6 (might not be needed but might as well to make sure)
  • z-5pro w/ zfx
  • z-6
  • z-5pro w/ zfx
  • z-6
  • z-2pro w/o zfx (this will have to cure longer)
  • wait a few days
  • rewash
  • z-8



the number of layers of z5pro and z2pro depend on the look you want, i think z5pro provides a warmer look then z2pro, z2pro is more shiny. you can add more layers of z2pro w/ zfx if you like the look but from what i read you want the last layer to be w/o zfx. not sure why but that's what i've read.



some ppl top w/ z8 right after the last z2pro has cured, but since z8 is a maintenance product i think you're better off waiting for your next wash b4 using it. i wouldn't take the risk of z8 adversely effecting the last layer of z2pro if it hasn't cured fully.



the process i list above if pretty much top of the line / 100%. if you want to save some cash skip FPII and replace z5pro w/ z2pro. that would save you about $50 or so. or you can replace the zaino line w/ another sealant like JetSeal 109 and save another $50. here are some notes i made about the zaino line you might find helpful:



  • ZFX is the quick cure agent to use w/ Z-2pro or z5-pro
  • Z-2 Pro is the sealant for all newer cars
  • Z-5 Pro is basically Z-2 w/ some swirl filling additives
  • Z-6 is a QD
  • Z-7 is their car shampoo
  • Z-18 is their clay
  • Z-8 is a ‘grand finale’, sounds like a heavy gloss that also protection that doesn’t last very long. to be used after washes for that quick shine-up
  • Z-CS is a clear seal that wipes on and dries w/o the need to remove it. should be the LSP. its not meant to replace Z-2 Pro, but instead you layer them, Z-2, Z-CS, Z-2, Z-CS or Z-2, Z-2, Z-CS. this product wasn't highly recommended by the forums.
 
Thank you haper. Informations provided by You are really good and I think that I will follow your advice and go with Flex and Menzerna combo. I'm not really woried about that extra 50 or 100 $, since I just bought the Zaino (Z2,Z5,Z6,Z7,Z8,Z18 and ZAIO), that I recived on Thursday. I'm still waiting form my order of ONR, EZ Wheel Brush, Optimum Opti-Bond (OOB????) and couple of MF towels that should be delivered on Monday (and I know that my package is siting at UPS warehouse about 5 min from me:wall but it is 4th of July) I just don't want to spend mony on something that may not produce results that I'm expecting for paing that extra money. But thanks to you guys I'm starting to belive that newbie can achive great result. Only thing I will net to wait because Flex will be my birgtay pressent from my wife (hopefully I will get it befoure September).
