ONR presoak caused me some trouble

Well, just wanted to inform everyone about what happened to me yesterday. 2 days ago at work my car got absolutely BOMBED with bird poo. I mean it was a disaster! A couple weeks ago I just finished getting my paint prepped for winter(a coat of Poxy, followed by 3 coats of Victoria Hybrid). I work evenings so I had to wait till the following day to get my car cleaned up.

So yesterday I get all set up to clean up my car from the bombing. I got the pressure washer out so I could give the car a good pressure rinse before the ONR wash. Typically I'd spray some dilluted APC on the bird poo prior to rinsing, but I was worried about the APC attacking the wax on the car. So instead, I spayed the areas with my bottle of ONR mixed at QD dillution that I use for presoaking. I sprayed all the areas twice and let soak for about 2min before I fired up the pressure washer.

After a full spray down I pulled the car into the garage out of the sun for the ONR wash. After washing was complete, I noticed something wrong with my passenger side rear door. The door had about 10 "run" marks going down the door, darker in color similar to ghost streaking but was obviously staining from water running down the side of the panel. That side of my car was in the sun, and the front door had no runs down it, only the rear door. That was where I had soaked the window and upper door prior to rinsing with the ONR premix.

Now I've been washing with ONR for a couple years now and never had seen this happen before. All other areas that were presoaked were not in direct sunlight and didn't have any problems. Only that one door. The ONR wash itself didn't touch it, nor did my detail spray (FK425) after the wash. For the heck of it I tried throwing an another coat of wax on that door to see if it would even itself out, but that did nothing.

Long story short, it appears I'm going to have to polish that door out later this week. I'm sure a very light polish will remove the "runs", or at least I'm hoping so. Just wondering if anyone has had the happen before? I was quite suprised.

ONR does some magic with oily grime, which is why wash media gets hammered with it as well as the sides of your bucket. A simple paint cleaner should remove that.

Next time your car is covered with crap, I wouldn't worry about whatever APC damaging your LSP, it has already been done.

Just wanted to give a quick update. I went over the troubled door with a paint cleanser and it cleaned it up real quick. Threw on a couple coats of wax and it's now back to normal. Next time I'll just spray it down with my APC mix as I've always done in the past.

The exact same thing happened to me once when I pre-treated some bird droppings with Megs QD. It left white hazey lines down the hood where the qd ran. They persisted after wash but disappeared with the next wash.

All that took place was that the surfactant cleaners removed what wax/sealant was on the vehicle.

Which is why a light polishing brought it back to what you normally observe.
